This baby's not going for any less than FOUR GRAND. And with 20,000 views, you have to wonder if anyone's really serious about buying or if it's all just gawking. The seller claims to be part of the dev team.

The seller only has six positive feedback, has never sold anything before now, and has $4k as a starting bid. Anyone who bids is either very trustworthy or very foolish.

Except this Zip Drive was actually planned by SEGA.
While that NES DVD drive was but a mere idea of a madman......with too much free time.

I'm sure it was priced at $10,000 to start with, and has changed since I first saw it. I'm not surprised its had 20,000+ views, every gaming forum on the internet has a thread about it now.

So what does this thing do exactly?

It won't do anything as no games support it, and according to the seller the zip disk thats with it has nothing on it.

People aren't kidding when they say it's a hunk of plastic. It has no known use.

There's no game that will use it. Nothing. You'd have to use a homebrew for it, but seriously, Zip drives DO suck. Slow, clickety, and man, when they eject the disk, you need a catchers mitt.
(btw, a while ago after the NES DVD-Drive hoax, I did talk on the NES dev forum about how "possible" it could be for one.. while it is possible, that's one hell of bank switching! ;) )

I thought Zip disks were great back in the day, when the only other alternative for swapping data between computers was floppy disks. Now USB memory sticks are around and really cheap, Zip disks are pretty much pointless.
A zip drive for dreamcast would have been a failure, so its a good thing it never went past the prototype, the N64DD zip drive was a total flop.

They were, but that's just it, "in the day".

I still use them for transferring data between my PC and Amiga sometimes. Zip drives are useful for old computers that don't do USB, and now nobody wants them any more you can get the drives and disks for peanuts.

Aren't you listening to the guy? The unit would have been a failure, end of discussion!!!
Side question: were people who actually use the phrase 'back in the day' ever actually there? It's like thirteen-year-old emo kids wearing Nirvana shirts.
edit: i've got a blank cd that might have contained sonic xtreme, pm me with all offers, six digits only plz

Zip discs were da phat bomb. OK, no they weren't.
Anyway Iomega was an incompetent company by any measure. A far better option than Zip Discs would have been MiniDisc. They were smaller, quieter, faster, held more data, etc etc etc. But since Sony always has been and always will be completely retarded, they never jumped on that bandwagon. The MiniDisc format would have been shitloads more popular if they had. But again, Sony is retarded. And yes I did think about this option "back in the day" when Zip Discs were, ummm, popular.

I only believe that Zip Disks suck because the only one I ever used died after minimal use.
Thankfully recordable CD's came along a little while later followed by flash drives.

Current price: $535 (reserve not met)
Anybody who is handing that sort of cash to a chap with six positive feedback, who has never sold an item before, is more than likely asking for trouble.
