I've gone through quite a few games on the segacd, but can't seem to get into it.

I didn't like SonicCD, Snatcher, RiseofTheDragon, MansionofhiddenSouls(w/e its called), NightTrap 32x.

Any ideas of something I could get into? maybe something a little more arcade/casual?

I only have the Sega CD because my sister gave me hers when she abandoned everything Sega. There's a couple of good ones: I liked Silpheed and LOVED Eye Of The Beholder*. But yeah, there were a lot of lame games for the Sega CD (Night Trap, Dracula Unleashed, the “free with your purchase of the Sega CD” game Sewer Shark, of course all those horrible Make My Video games. Oh Gaaawd, remember Kriss Kross?).

I definitely want to get Sonic CD one of these days, as I’ve loved everything Sonic I’ve ever played (well, except for the awful Sonic 3-D Blast, which I rented but never bought).

*I recently (like, in the past two years) got a cheap copy of the Forgotten Realms Archives CD-ROM, so I could play the other games in the EOB series. But I missed the cool music and sound effects from the Sega CD version. Those weedy PC speaker sounds just DON’T cut it!

Hmm if you like shmups Android Assault and Robo Aleste are pretty good. Not so much arcade like but pretty good games nonetheless.

Like platformers?

Earthworm Jim Special Edition
Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure
Chuck Rock and Chuck Rock 2
Flink
The Terminator
Wolf Child
Wonder Dog

All of these are good, to varying degrees.

If you enjoy 3D vehicular action games...

Battlecorps
Soul Star
Thunderstrike
Stellar Fire

These are not only fun, but they show off the NEXTLEVEL power of the Sega CD more than almost anything else. Soul Star is the best of them, and makes me wonder why Sega never attempted to port their sprite-scaling arcade games to the Sega CD.

Lunar I and II, Final Fight, Popful Mail, Dark Wizard, Lords of Thunder and I would go along with Ad2101 and say that RoboALeste kicks ass. The Sega cd warped me when I was younger. After playing Lunar, then Snatcher , then Lunar II all back to back I still have trouble finding games that made me that happy. You really should give Snatcher another try. It has one of the best endings I have ever seen in a game.

BC racer is great :)
A bit choppy but you will understand sooner or later that having this game smooth is just bad gameplay-wise (see 32x version, smooth but unplayable).

Eternal Champions isn't too shoddy if you want a fighter. And Keio's pretty decent too.

I second Robo Aleste and Final Fight. Probably two of the few games that really brought the arcade to the home in close-to-pristine quality back then...

Hello all, first post here :) Yep, Final Fight is a fantastic game for the Sega CD. I recently re-aquired a unit myself. When I purchased it back in the heyday (the first model), the only game I really got into was "Road Avenger" believe it or not. Being an old fan of the Don Bluth games, I really enjoyed the title. Not much after that however, and I soon sold off the unit, not to play it again until...well...a few days ago :)

I was lucky to get Final Fight CD with the package, and man, it is great. It is exactly like the arcade as far as I can see, and probably better because of the redbook.

I may eventually search out more Sega CD titles, but I am more of a cart guy myself (at about 160 boxed games at this point). But, I do love the Sega CD for its audio CD functionality as well. Not many players in this day and age will display CD+G...except for some of those pricey karaoke players. Not only that, but my music CD's of course sound great out of the unit. Remember those old music CD's? :p

yes, shmups.org

Sega CD doesn't have very many, but the ones it does have are good. Silpheed, Robo Aleste, Android Assault, and Keio Flying Squadron (shmup/platformer, ridiculously expensive) are all fun. Sol-Feace is okay too, but I only ever see it disc-only.

As far as I know it only came with the model 1 in the U.S. with its little red paper jewel case . I think it is an underrated game. While it is no Thunder Force its not absolutely horrible. People always tear into it like it is the worst game ever made. Its just average.

Iron Lizard is right about Sol Feace. It never had a proper release or proper packaging in the US. Even it's manual, which looked like one which could fit in a CD jewel case, was slightly to big.

Isn't sewer Shark like a rail shooter with Choose your own adventure directioning? (made up a word, w00t)

Sewer Shark is a game where you move around a cursor and shoot things (similar to some light gun games without the light gun), and then occasionally you have to pick directions to move. It's really not as bad as people say. Not that it's great or anything.

Sewer Shark fits the definition of a rail shooter. Panzer Dragoon is the same way. Panzer Dragoon 2 even let you pick paths on the fly.

It's funny how I got my Sega CD. My uncle had his friend over, who brought his Sega CD; I guess they were drunk or whatever, but his friend left the Sega CD here and never came back for it. Over the years, my uncle just passed it to me. I'm likely in the minority here, but I really liked the Sherlock Holmes Consulting detective game. My uncle also had the CD that was a collection of Streets of Rage 1, Golden Axe, Columns, and Shinobi. That was awesome and was what really made me love Sega CD, because those are all great games.

Now that you name 3d games on sega cd it reminds me of this awesome movie.
