Well I got this in the mail about a week ago and I can't figure out what is wrong with this thing. I'm trying to play SMS games on my Genesis CDX, but there is nothing on the screen nor is there a "Game" displayed on the LCD on the front of the system. I want to play Vigilante, Golvellius, Shinobi and R-Type. Perhaps I might have a defective converter? I tried posting this on the Tototek forum but there is no one there to respond. I'd greatly appreciate any help. Thank You!

17 views and no responses. I'm assuming that no one else here ever had one of this converters. I'll just go ahead and try to keep in touch with the tototek people and get a refund or exchange. Hopefully I can get this resolved soon.

I don't recall anyone here having that converter. At least I've never heard anyone mention it. I'd like to know more on it, if possible.

Here's the link to the product: http://www.tototek.com/pio/main1/SUBMENU/PARTS/LINKS/OS/mark3converter.htm
I thought this item would've been great for my Genesis CDX because of how much smaller it is than the bulky power base converter.

Have you tried it on another Genesis? Maybe it doesn't work with the CDX, only model I and II.

Tom Briggs (Internalprimate) has one, and he says it works fine. He posted about it somewhere on this forum.

Well I emailed Tototek and got a response by someone named Tomy and he tells me that the SMS converter only works on a Genesis model 1 or 2. He said the reason why it won't work with a CDX is because the console doesn't support z-80 mode! Finding out that it doesn't support SMS games with a converter makes me upset! I really love my CDX! The system is so compact and conveneintly sits next to my computer. Now I have to sell my CDX and settle for a bulky Genesis model 1 and a Sega CD model 2 (very nicely designed)! I just find it strange that the CDX doesn't have z-80 support for SMS games.

Don't sell the CDX. Buy a Master System instead.

This isn't true. It has it, as the PowerBase converter has been proven to work on the CDX.

Maybe Tototek = trash.

I was actually considering that. Maybe an SMS II. I don't need the original SMS to play card games.

Maybe Tototek = trash.Maybe their SMS converter is, but that Megacart looks really enticing!

This isn't true. It has it, as the PowerBase converter has been proven to work on the CDX. If that's the case, then I'll get one. Is there any modification required to use it on a CDX?

Yes, I think the shape of the Powerbase, the back has to be cut off or something.

Well you sure won't be playing them on the SMS 2! Remember that the SMS2 has an RF-only connection, and the console itself looks like ass. 3D games also will not work without the card slot.

Oh the SMS 2 only has RF only? Wow how dumb is that? I'm not interested in 3-D or card based games for the SMS. I just want to play a handful of SMS games I got from ebay.

I believe it can be modified internally to output composite, but I can't find anything on the internet about it, so I may be wrong.

Yes, it can.

One thing to remember, is that most, if not all internal RF output modulators, have an internal Composite input stage.

No modification was needed for the Power Base Converter to make it work on my CDX. Thanks!

You can get 'power base converters' the size of a cartridge. Sega made one specifically for the MegadriveII, and third party companies made them too, they'll work on a genesis aswell.

I'm sorry I saw this thread so late!!!!

I own the SMS/Mark III Converter as well, and I had some of the same problems your having. Certain games like Fantasy Zone 2 and Golvellius wouldn't work. This is how I fixed the problem:

Put the converter and game into the system, and power it on. If you have a blank screen, press the "reset" button ON the converter up to three times. If you still have a blank screen (you shouldn't), press the reset button on the GENNY until it works.

This method has worked for every game thats had that problem. If this doesn't work for you, demand a refund from Tototek.
