View Full Version : The Terminator on different Sega CD models

I have seen The Terminator listed (from several different sources) as being incompatible with the Sega CDX, along with Jurassic Park and a couple of games that nobody plays or cares about (Who Shot Johnny Rock? Who gives a fuck?).
Well, it works just fine on my CDX.
But! It doesn't work so well on my standard Model 2 Sega CD. It boots okay, but it's very prone to freezing. So prone that I have never been able to finish the first level without it freezing, and I've tried at least 10 times.
So... anybody else tried The Terminator on different Sega CD models? I would assume that it works fine on a Model 1 (after all, that was the only model in existence when it was developed). I haven't yet tried it on my X'Eye, which is packed away at the moment.

I wonder what in the game could be so hardware dependent.

More like the BIOS incompatibility.

I just played through it with a X'Eye dying on the factory level. Everything was perfectly fine. If I can remember, I'll try it on the CDX too, but I'm pretty sure I've played it on the CDX before.
My first Sega CD was a model 2, and it worked fine there.

Ooooh, did you say Jurassic Park?
Loved that game, was nothing like any other Jurassic Park game ever made, and the music could, at times, be very creepy.
I remember the fight with the T-Rex... wow, that part had me stumped for the longest...
And the way you could just pick up a rock and toss it into that computer screen to more or less commit suicide on the game...

Yeah, I liked Jurassic Park too.

I've heard that some Model 2's are finicky with games. I recall someone posting here that his copy of Joe Montana or something worked fine on his Model 1, but didn't like his Model 2, or something to that effect.
I know it works fine on my Sega CD 2, and I don't recall if I tested it on my Model 1 console.

Yeah, I still can't get Joe Montana to work on my Model 2 Sega CD. It works just fine on my Model 1. Go figure.

I have a model 2 and it runs all of my games perfectly:
Night Trap
Demolition Man
Sewer Shark
Lawnmower Man
Terminator
Flashback
Heart of the Alien
Rise of the Dragon
Sonic CD
all these games work great!
I have been considering investing in a CDX, I'm wondering if its really worth it, however.
It works fine on my Mega CD 2. One of the best games for mega cd I would say. My favourite is Night Trap though.

Having owned nearly every domestic Genesis, my feelings on the CDX are that it is great if you need a really tiny Genesis/Sega CD to carry around. Either if you are going to a buds house, or if you don't leave the old systems plugged up and you just want to take it out of the closet once in a while for gaming, it's great. However if portability isn't an issue, I'd get an X'Eye instead. You still only use 1 AC adapter, and the audio/video output is a little better. Plus, it's cheaper.
Of course, the CDX's cool factor is much, much higher than the X'Eye. The CDX gets a cool factor of 9, while the X'Eye is only a 7.

well, I just bought a Sega CDX, got a good deal on it and it should be arriving at my doorstep pretty soon. Very excited...

Dose this mean the article here for the Sega CDX should be modified since we now know the CDX can indeed play the Terminator?
