A question I'm thinking about.. Is should there be a seperate forum for all technical talk? It's interesting.. But most of the people sign up to talk about the console and its games, the kind of blur between the two in the main genny forum is kind of messy, if people want to discuss technical, should there be a new sub forum soley dedicated to it? I know there's the help forum, but this is mainly for help.. Most other technical talk on say the VDP, sound chip and all other associated tech talk usually goes in the Genny forum. Just a suggestion.

Yeah, I vote for this as well. There's a pretty big rift between those who are interested in this stuff and those who aren't, and to be honest too many of the threads are getting turned into or created as tech threads to be filed under the other subforums. I would agree that it needs a subboard of its own.

I guess the question is if Tech Talk is sufficient.

That would be awesome. I could then ignore the boring techno-babble tosh much more easily. :D

A good name for it would be "Evil Dragon's very own Tech Forum" and he can be the only moderator in it.

Is there really a need to change it? Why not learn a thing or two about the inner workings of the Megadrive/Genesis? Or is ignorance really that bliss? I think it's more annoying when people make posts boasting claims of what the system can do out of ignorance, when they really have no idea.

I think so, there's nothing more annoying than a decent topic being hijacked by the technical brigade who start throwing around numbers and letters as if they're on an episode of Sesame Street.

My Mega Drive can cook toast.

I thought the Entertainment System was the best toast-maker. It sort of looks like one, even.

That's what I was thinking, Smith.

I don't like sub-forums. They are a pain to navigate to (which is why I never go into the record breakers forum and whatnot). I agree that some of the technical stuff can make a thread quite boring. Try to ignore it and make posts about the topic any way. Others will see this and discuss the topic with you. A thread only turns in to technical babble if you let it. But be warned, there is no way to eliminate it completely, it's gonna happen. Open your mind a bit and you'll be fine.

Evildragon, I think you were mentioned since you do not collect/play games and only discuss hardware.

For me the issue isn't being close-minded; it's just not having a clue what y'all are talking about.

Oh, but I do play games to, but more Sega CD than cartridge games.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm actually interested in the technical side of things, I'm just thinking of the overall basis and how it comes across in the Genny forum to those that sign up who want to just have casual chat on the console and its games. I've seen other forums where they have a sub forum dedicated to technical talk, and I must say it does feel and look a lot neater, more organised. Sometimes, I've got to admit, it feels kind of weird how somebody has to bring up technical talk in a thread that is otherwise casual, and then the talk turns towards technical leaving most forum members in the dark, while the few that do know technical carry on.

Right now I'm reading the current VDP thread in the Genny forum, while that's an interesting discussion, I'm sure a thread such as that is currently leaving many members in the dark. It has 50 replies, most of which are from a select few/handful of members who know about tech.

Im not into the technical things of the genesis id rather play it,what has been done in the system is nothing to talk about because its in there and the iff they had done this if they had made a sega 16 replica, then what are you waiting for make the next sega :b.i like that people still try to fullfill their childhood memories by pushing the envelope by making for instance tavern rpg etc thats cool.

Sometimes the technical talk came become long winded but often it is necessary to answer the question. I love knowing the nitty gritty details about my Beloved Genesis. I don't think new place to put purely technical questions would be bad but at the same time how many different people are posting on here to justify it. Usually I just ignore it when I don't know what the hell they are talking about anymore. Often it just two people throwing specs back and forth anyways. Its not like you are required to reply to that part of the thread.
