It's been 10 years now since the Playstation came out in North America. Hard to believe Sony's been in the console game that long already and the dominance of the Playstation brand is undeniable. Whether you love it or hate it the PSX had some great games and broadened the market, bringing games to even more people, and thus solidifying gaming's mainstream appeal, than ever before.

10th Year NA Anniversary of the Playstation: Respect.

I think the PSX was a great console, and I'm mostly a sega fan.

Ah yes, when the industry entered a new era of incompetent hardware.

Thanks for the trolling Gecko, those kind of posts are always welcome at Sega-16! I mean such a remark couldn't possibly be said about our beloved Genesis, let alone the Saturn, could it?!

It's a fact, I have never seen any other consoles malfunction as much as Sony's ;)

Really? My old grey PSX from 1997 still plays perfectly fine till this day, and it's modded so the laser lens should have crapped out by now but it still plays great. My PS2 from 2001 still plays great and it's modded as well. While I've had 2 DC's crap out on me and my launch day Xbox's Thompson DVD drive crapped out on me in early 2004 and it was unmodded.

Nonetheless this was a celebration thread. If you're not gonna add anything positive, or at least constructive, do me a favor and avoid trolling it. Thanks.

Anyways, back on topic. The Playstation was my resurrection back into gaming. I had put off gaming after the Genesis/SNES war because I had entered college in '95 and was focused on other things in my life, i.e. gaming took a backseat aside from the occasional football/basketball title from EA on the Genny.

Around comes 1997 and I'm in a serious relationship. The girl was crazy about this up and coming game called Final Fantasy VII. There're commericals and hype out the wazoo surrounding this title like never before! She buys it at it's launch but doesn't even have a PSX! She begs me to buy her one and in late October I do. Playing FF7, my first time really playing an RPG, reawakens a desire to explore new games/gaming genres again and the next couple of years, with the tail end of the PSX library and the launch of the DC, I experience a rebirth as a gaming junkie.

The PSX ended up being my second most supported system, the Genesis just barely squeeks by it, and brought me many games/game worlds to enjoy and explore. I'm still to this day tracking down PSX titles I missed out on, even with 115 games in my stash, and I couldn't be happier. I love this system, even if I don't care for it's maker.

Here's my Playstation library, which has brought me some of the best gaming experiences I've ever had:

I love my modded PSone. Sexiest console design ever, IMO.

One thing I've noticed about PSX games is that they're harder to find nowadays at retail, except for a few GH titles. I thought they'd linger around a bit longer than they have.

Maybe it's where you live Melf as it's really easy to find PSX games at Walmart, Best Buy, EB, Gamestop, Target, Circuit City, let alone rental places like Blockbuster/Movie Gallery/Hollywood Video here in the eastern USA. I say eastern USA because I've travelled a ton up and down I-75 & I-95 from the Florida Keys to Niagra Falls/Great Lakes region and any time I've stopped/stayed/visited somewhere PSX games where easy to find.

That might be it. I only see some of the later budget releases, and some GHs. There aren't any decent used sections at EB or GS either. :(

I feel for you as the used sections at game stores where I live, and in general in the US from the sounds of it, are larger than the amount of new games that they have in stock. There was even a very interesting article that talked about how EB/Gamestop's main source of income is in selling used games and they're focusing even more on the recently used game market.

Yeah, they've really dried up. All the pawn shop has are crappy sports games loose, and they rarely get decent PSX games in.

Kind of sad, but I've gotten some ok deals on games for other systems tho.

Im really probably the only person here who actually really hates the PSX... and I have many reasons why (one being malfunctioning so much).

I own one... well junked it as I built a PS2 out of parts from different PS2s my friends had me repair for them. The only reason I have it is for my Lunar and Lunar EB!!!! I love Lunar. Oh and Silent Hill is cool too.

Here, stores that sell used have decent amounts of PSX games, but no one has new PSX games anymore, except Fry's which only has a tiny amount (and it's almost all GH, with the rest being shit).

I like PSX's library. Mine did crap out on me though.

I went game shopping today, and all of the PSX games are an hour away.

WOOT! I just got my Girlfirend a modded PSX for her birthday and she couldn't be happier! She's now got a modded PSX, modded Saturn, modded Xbox, and a Genny Model 2 all her own! We're a couple addicted to gaming!
:D

Wish I could find a girl, esp. one who loves gaming. :(

I'm working on it...
