Dammit Sega, why did you even bother with the 32X if you didn't try?

Why 32X? it could have been done on the standard console, there was a Master System version after all.

Wasn't the 32X designed to bring more arcade perfect games to the home?

The SMS was NOT arcade perfect.

Obviously the sms version isn't 'arcade perfect', but why would sega have bothered making Shadow Dancer for 32X. The fact there is a SMS version demonstrated that the standard Megadrive is perfectly capable of doing a port of the arcade game, but instead they chose to make an exclusive new title. Shadow Dancer arcade wouldn't have been a good showcase for the 32X abilities, and by that time it was an old title anyway, unlikely to be a good seller for them.

True, but it wouldn't have hurt either.

But I'm sure something like... Hang-On would have sold better then that Motocross game.

The arcade version of Shadow Dancer is a horrible game. The Genesis version is far better.

Shadow dancer was old news when the 32x came. People wanted rotating scaling and 3d other other graphical eye candy.

For the most part, arcade SD had better graphics that the Genny Shadow Dancer. Most of the levels in Genny SD up until the Statue of Riberty look on-par with the best the coin-op SD had, but afterwards the graphic quality dipped greatly. The ninjutsu spells also look much better and lively on the coin-op, yet the protagonist looks quite a bit chubby compared to the Genny's slim protagonist.

But anyways, 32X ports of such underwhelming, non-scaling/rotating games would've been unmarketable by 1994. Hell, Sega didn't even bother whipping up a port of the original Shinobi for the Genesis (which could've been a pretty faithful port seeing how the PCE port turned out), yet they whipped up a port of the then five-year old Outrun in 1991, having already been ported to the Master System.

I hear the Amiga version of Shadow Dancer is pretty damn good. I've yet to play it, though.

Ewwwww... besides the music, the graphics are the thing I like least about the arcade Shadow Dancer. Sure, some of the bosses are bigger and look a little nicer, but the backgrounds are artistically inept as are most of the sprites. The Genesis version has much better artwork, even if it were only in black and white.

The arcade Shadow Dancer suffered from a boring graphical design. Itīs not drawn badly or anything, but itīs lacking any atmosphere, while the Genny-version has a nicedark touch.
But what really killed the Arcade version for me are bad controls and the harsh difficulty-level.

The Amiga-version is indeed the best port of the arcade, with Atari ST being a very close second.
