Normally I hate seeing "RARE!" and eBay in the same subject, but this one seems interesting.

It seems to be a Genesis model 1 with the top part of the chassis replaced.

Yeah, its the outback joey. Youve never seen one? I would get one if I could score it cheap, but ive got too many wierd megadrive systems already. It would be cool though. I think they talk about it on one of the features about sega accessories etc on here. I just bought something ive never even heard of but saw on ebay. I bought it just out of curiousity, its called the MGH saver cartridge for sega genesis. I can't find any info on it at all & the summabitch sellin it wouldn't answer my question about what the hell it is. But I got it for cheap so i figured what the hell. I hope it lets me save my games, but its probably just some weird useless crap.

:o That's the first time I have ever seen Outback Joey!
I thought this was going to be one of Evildragon's boring tech threads where one componet inside the console was aligned differently, however, I stand corrected.
Hopefully this experience of wonder will be the first of many for me in 2008.

We had some topic about this a while back....seems to be the rarest Genesis there is, and probably the second rarest game.

How does Outback Joey work on a regular Sega Genesis without all that equipment? Is it playable?

Was this an Australian thing?

No, American. Australians play Mega Drive.

Wow, first time ive ever even heard of this beast! The system looks interesting but what I'd really want to see is how all of these peripherals work together.

That's what I said right there in my original post.

Are you the fiend that bought it or just pointing it out? If you bought it have you tried working out with it? Lol. It looks like it has a jack in the back probably for those paddle thingamajigs to read your respiration, pulse, etc. What a nutty little contraption.

No I didn't buy it, just pointing it out. Btw, the back of that Genesis looks like every other model 1 Genesis without the EXT connector. Nothing special there.

Why are you calling the buyer a fiend though?

(I wouldn't get this machine, it looks too ugly for me)

Or maybe you don't have enough money for it...

It looks like it covered in Skate Board grip tape or that rock spray paint people us on model railroads. It to much for me to spend that kind of money on. $335 is what what it is going to cost for me to get a Turbocharger for my Volvo ,it is little more then half my rent and its a shit load of groceries . That for that ugly thing that only myself and the people on this forum would care about it is just is not worth it.

well it is too expensive..

but it IS ugly.. it's grey with purple controls, that's just an ugly scheme. i like my original black genesis..

Looks like a piece of crap IMHO, not something you would keep out on display.

Like a pair of L.A. Gear shoes.

Those shoes are cool. And so is that purple grey Genesis. It is unique as it works with that weird equipment that lets you exercise. EyeToy and Wiimote are far less interesting to me.

A regular Genesis would work with that thing too..

You should buy them both and post some pics of it.

evildragon: So there is nothing special about it hardware wise? How come they made it then?

Iron_Lizard: If the situation comes, and I have the budget, I will try to buy them :).

Haha, don't have too high hopes on it. After all, there are less than a 1000 units available (for the console, that is).

Because all that was different was the top part of the cover, to match the "exercising" appearance as was the early 90's...

In other words, it was all about the cosmetics.

EDIT: After some researching the pictures, I have come to the conclusion it is a re-top covered Rev 3. I come to this conclusion due to the placement of the rear jacks having the same position shift due to the DC jack being on the main board and not a separate daughter board.

Revision 3:
(Electrical Aspect)
Main CPU: Hitachi (More?)
Audio Quality: Poor
TMSS?: Yes
EXT Port?: No
GLU Chip: All-In-One (Contains YM2612 and VDP)
(Physical Aspect)
EXT Port Spot?: No
Genesis Logo: Monochrome
LED Bezel: Red Removable Plastic
Feet: Plastic
HD-Graphics?: No
Notes: This model is VERY closely related to the Model 2 Genesis.

Probably the same reason they made a "Sega Sports" Dreamcast.

Obviously Sega was in on it but wasn't it released by someone else ,Heart Beat or what ever they called themselves.

evildragon
01-02-2008, 09:40 PM
yes.. but sega manufactured it, just without the top half, and gave it to that exercise company whom slapped on their own cover.

being it's a Rev 3 model 1 (by my rev chart thread), it will have sucky audio...

I know. I just wonder who's idea it was. I'm sure Sega had no problem with selling more hardware.

Oh hell... this thing... this is the kind of thing I always hope to find laying around in a yard sale or a flea market.
