Picked up togeather on eBay for 99p (because I'm a fool who buys anything with 'SEGA' written on it)

Well I know that the inside of a Magnetic Card READ/WRITER has several different magnetic ball/tips. These roll over a magnetic strip (on a credit card or something) and can read or write to it (where as just a reader like in an ATM has less tracks, as it only reads and you don't want it wearing out the card).
These balls get all gunked up and nasty and can't effect a magnetic surface as well. I assumed that little device probably slides through it and the pins drop into the notched out slots and as the slide back out the key grabs any filth and the sort off of it.
I'm only guessing....
I do know that Sega makes things like card readers, RDIF receivers, and other weird little gadgets like this. They are a very weird company.

Maybe for one of their arcade cabinets or pachinko games? (They also make those laser tag toys, BTW.)

That is the key that unlocks the secret vault containing every completed, but unreleased game SEGA ever made.

The mere idea of a billion to one possibility of such a thing has my pants damp.

I had buddy in England who lived (lives?) in Derby. I mentioned Nottingham (Robin Hood!) and he didn't speak very highly of Robin's stomping ground. I think he said something about some town rivalry or something.
As a side note: Alan Rickman = the best Sheriff.

There is rivalry between Nottingham and Derby, although mainly with football.
The Sheriff of Nottingham is a myth, as, during the time period of Robin Hood, Nottingham had two Sheriffs and they were changed annually. Regardless of myth, we like to maintain the traditions of Robin Hood, except now, instead of robbing from the rich to give to the poor, it is robbing from homes to give to drug gangs. :)

How did this thread get from Sega bits to Robin Hood? Only on s16, I guess.

Flying horribly off-topic is to be expected.
And we have already determined that the key is a Willy Wonka "Golden Ticket" that allows the owner to enter SEGA and their ultra secret vault of unreleased games and systems.
