Has anyone mentioned it was a Japanese book about the MD with a mini MD model?

Hey while were on the "whats this?" question, I just got a genesis cart off ebay. I bought it for cheap because I had never seen it before and it interested me & thought what the hell. So when I got it I popped it in and the sucker doesn't work. I just want to know what the hell it is but can't find any info on it anywhere. It was cart only so I don't have a case, and it looks like its either a NTSC or europe cart, and it says MSG saver on the plain grey sticker on the front. Under the title it says something in small black text about renovation, but I don't have it with me so I don't remember exactly, but I don't think it was refering to renovation the game company. IDK I was just wondering if anyone has this or has seen it because its driving me crazy. What is the mysterious MSG saver cart? Anyone?

Perhaps its a SegaCD/MegaCD save cartridge. Get a picture taken of it.

It is a Japanese booklet with free minature toy as an amazing bonus. I hope those Japanese authors added a warning to the book saying "Do not give to children", those kids may eat it and the consequences wouldn't be too great.

Oh crap, Rusty Venture beat me to it this time.

This could go on forever.

I have a tiny little Saturn like that. My friend brought it back from Japan.

If it is its not the official one as I have the ram cart and have seen the different region versions of it. I don't have a digital camera (I know I have been meening to get one for ages) as I like to mainly use film cameras, but I have a cell phone camera. So I will either try and borrough my friend's digi cam or will try the phone camera and get a pick up on here. Im going to try and clean it again and see if I can get the cart to run. The stupid seller on ebay wouldn't answer my questions and the item doesn't even work. I should negative feedback them into the stoneage but I'll probably just leave them good feedback because I haven't left negative feed before and it wasn't too expensive.

Well you never know it migth be some super rare prototype of a European game that won't boot on your system as its US. Or it could just be a SegaCD save cart with a dead battery. Perhaps the upcoming photos will help solve this mystery...

MGH Game saver - this?

http://i7.ebayimg.com/02/i/000/a8/77/91a9_1_sbl.JPG

(Very blurry, direct from evilbay listing)

I thought it was interesting at first, but then assumed it was just another plug-thru adaptor - shipping was too much to experiment.

Yes, thats it! Thats the damn photo I had on my auction I won also! I guess its MGH not MSG like I origionally said. I think I had Ramen on my mind or something when I wrote that :). Under the MGH letters in small black print it says "Means Innovation". Im gonna try hooking it up to the game genie when I get home, that works a lot of times when I get shitty carts. I was hoping when I bought it that it would be like the game genie with a saving feature, but it is not a pass though, its just a normal cart desighn.

I know what it is now. Its for a floppy disk "back-up" system, i.e one of those units you can plonk on the top of your console and copy carts onto floppy with. Well that MGH cart is to let you play battery back up games from floppy and it stores your sava data instead of on the floppy disk.

Heh, I came here to say I found out what it did, too. :) Seems like if you wanted to get some use out of it, you'd need to fork out quite a bit of moneys for one of those copiers.

Excellent, I was worried it would remain a mystery! Hmm a floppy disc backup system? Is that similar to the magic drive add on? I got a cable and some kind of usb (i think, have not tried it yet) cart plug in from tototek when I got my Megacart. Probably no real reason to mess with it if I already have the megacart. So the games can be made into backup copies on floppy disc, but you can save a game onto this cart to play it on the system. Thats cool. Do you guys have any links to info about the copiers or the cart just out of curiousity?

I think he's saying that you run your legally backed-up games from the floppy drive, and the battery-saves (for instance, Phantasy Star II) are saved onto the cartridge you plug into the copier.

With a Megacart (or any other Tototek cartridge), I don't see the need for these floppy disk-based copier devices any more. They're big, ugly, and the vintage Hong Kong electronics will certainly wear out sooner or later.

Yeah, the megacart probably makes this very obsolete. Still glad I picked it up for cheap though. Cool to own just for the heck of it, one more oddity gadget for the collection. So the battery save on the MSH can keep saves from a game that uses a save system like phantasy star? I did not think the megacart could save the save state(for lack of better term) but I could be wrong. Ahh im sure I will probably never use it anyway. Thanks for helping me identify this sucker though :)

Aha, I got a new "whats this". I saw on ebay a complete mint copy for sega genesis of The Lost World:jurasic park. Is this a pirate game, as I don't think this was released. The auction says its really rare or something and they are asking a high price. Is this game legit or a fake? EDIT nevermind I found it on genesis collective, im an idiot.

It was released in Europe, and I just checked on ebay.com and theres a good few copies on there so it definitely had a genuine US release too. Theres enough copies on ebay right now to show its not that rare in the US. The Euro release doesn't fetch a high price, and judging by ebay thats a lot harder to find too.
