I've been out of the loop on Genesis stuff for quite some time now. I got a Genesis 2 back when the Sonic 2 pack came out, and have loved it since. I even talked my parents into buying a 32x and Doom for christmas when they were new (OUCH.)

When I was 18 I got a job as an assistant manager at a very slow pizza joint. I managed to nab a Nomad when they were clearanced at EB, and it was my constant companion. However, this would lead to me ignoring the Genesis for the last 10 years. At the time, portable gaming was dead, but there were tons of cheap Genesis carts to be had. At that job I had 4-5 hours a day to do nothing but play that Nomad. I eventually got sick of all the Genesis games and have barely played them in this decade.

Recently, I was digging through my storage areas and found a lot of old Genesis carts, including games I didn't even know I had! When did I pick up the Phantasy Star and Thunderforce games? I'm not quite sure, really. Anyway, I am playing the Genesis again, and I want to fill out my collection, and that is where I could use some help. From reading other peoples' posts there are several games that seem to be good that I don't have or have never even heard of.

Here's a post of what I have, please give me some suggestions on some must-haves that I am lacking that I need to play:

Genesis cart:

Aladdin
Contra Hard Corps
Ghouls and Ghosts
Mortal Kombat 1, 2, 3
NBA Jam regular and TE
Phantasy Star 2, 4, and I think 3
Pit Fighter
Revenge of Shinobi
Shadow Dancer
Shinobi 3
Sonic1, 2, 3, Knuckles, Spinball
Street Fighter 2 CE, Super SF2
Streets of Rage 1, 2, 3
Strider
Sunset Riders
Thunder Force 2 and 3
TMNT Hyperstone Heist
Virtua Racing (cart doesn't work)
World of Illusion

Gunstar Heroes Wii VC (I never did find the cart)

...I should have more than that, but that is what I can find right now. It is possible that I have lost games during the 3 moves I've had since then. I really miss Castlevania Bloodlines, but the case is purdy.

First off, welcome back to the both the system and the site. I hope you find your stay enjoyable. Again. :D You've got some good games, and based on what you have and my own subjective opinions I recommend some of these games:

Ranger X
Landstalker
Beyond Oasis
Alisia Dragoon
Lightening Force (Thunder Force 4)
Vectorman
Adventures of Batman and Robin

You can also check out our reviews, sorted by score. Most of the tens, nines, and eights (with a few exceptions) are well worth it. http://www.sega-16.com/reviews.php?by=score&way=DESC&search=&search_in=master_list.title&sys=Genesis

Wow you really have a collection that has a high concentration of quality there, I would advise you to try Star flight, star control, Earthworm jim 1 &2 gauntlet 4 and you can't go wrong!

Okay, I'm jotting down notes, I'll probably raid ebay for some carts soon. Earthworm Jim 1 is the only thing on the list that I've played, shame on me.

I do still have a few games that I've had for years that I've barely played as well. Believe it or not, I popped in Lunar 1 for the first time ever today. I've played the PSX version of 1, the Sega CD version of 2, but never the Sega CD of 1.

are you playing with a 32X? if you are thats why the VR game wont work. only the 32X VR works on a 32X. I had the same thing. One day i said "hey, i think ill buy VR finally" two days later i win a 32X on ebay and then it doesnt work. luckily the 32X came with VR deluxe.

VR Deluxe hoses the SVP version.

No, the cart itself doesn't work, the connectors actually have corrosion on them. I could fix it, but I do have the 32x game too. I don't normally have the 32x hooked up, I only bust it out for some VR action.

ah. sounds good. i approve every game on your list. im not 100% sold on PS, ive never played them, but the list wasnt loaded with RPGs so i didnt have a problem with it.

I actually haven't played the PS games either. I played the first one and the third one, but not 2 or 4. I love RPGs, but I rarely have the time to play them so they sit on my pile of shame, some for 10 years now.

Picked up a few new titles from ebay: Rocket Knight Adventures, T2 Arcade, Afterburner 32x, Road Blasters, and Vectorman. I was actually just looking for Rocket Knight Adventures, but added the other games for $1 each since the shipping was the same.

all great games! I own T2 and vectorman but not the other three.

I played T2 all the time when my cousin had it, but I've never owned it. I have the SNES version, but it is actually quite terrible compared to the Genesis game.

T2 Protip: If you are having diffculty with the helicopter stage, use an Atari 2600 joystick. Then you can rapid fire bullets and rockets at once.

Does the Genesis pad work on Atari as well?

I might try it later on with my 2600, I know the genny pad works great with all the Amiga models inc. the CD32.

It'll work, just like SMS pads will.

Yeah, back when I had a working 2600 I always used a Sega 6 button pad. I hated those cheap Atari sticks.

Just a quick list of some of my favorites that are pretty common:

Comix Zone (this is one of the best brawlers of the 16-bit era, IMHO)
Truxton (tough verticial shooter)
Gaiares (tough horizontal shooter)
Hellfire (super common and surprisingly good horizontal shooter)
Rocket Knight Adventures (great and unique platformer from Konami)
Bio Hazard Battle (another great horizontal shmup, this one from Sega)
Zombies Ate My Neighbors (this one is quirky fun)
Flashback (this is a side scrolling, rotoscoped game in the vein of Out of this World, but much more playable)

You have a great core collection already (including a few I don't have). I also second the suggestions for Vectorman and Earthworm Jim - they're great games.

the helicopter stage is easier than the one before it with the truck and terminators and HKs chasing you. nearly impossible on one player. I always thought the digitized pictures were better on SNES, but it was more fun on sega. Ive only ever emulated the SNES one.

I second Comix Zone and Rocket Knight Adventures.
