View Full Version : Okay, question and answer time... >_>

First off, I'm Shinagami from the previous incarnation of SEGA-16's Message boards. Cookie getto if ANYONE remembers me.

I doubt you do.

Better yet, I doubt you care.

>_>

I decided to use my real name here, so now that introductions are out of the way, I can throw the tarp off this question and get straight to brass tacks.

I'm interested in re-obtaining my lost love, the SEGA 32X. I want to play Knuckles Chaotix again (owned three copies, none of them worked on my sadly faulty Genesis system).

I'm not going to emulate it-- not interested, sorry. I'm a collector, so it's gotta be the real thing. >_>

Here's the actual question.

My current method of enjoying SEGA Genesis and SEGA CD is a JVC X'Eye.

I've heard from both camps that 32X DOES work with X'Eye and it does NOT work with X'Eye, and I want to know which is actually true.

I owned a Genny before (two, actually. Ye olden shtyle MK1 and ye slightly-less-olden-shtyle MK2.) 32X kind of half-way worked with my MK2 and I didn't have the ability to play it on the MK1.

I've done my research and homework and have turned up contrasting opinions, which is why I'm asking here. If this question's answered in some pinned topic, then I'm officially blind because I didn't see it.

If anyone can help me, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks again.

[goes back to playing Triple Trouble]

[EDIT] Can't spell my own name! XD GAH! It's Shinagami, not Shinigami. 9_9'

Maybe your copies needed to be cleaned?

Anyway, I've too heard the Xeye works, except it blocks the CD door.

I tried cleaning the copies using several different cleaning kits, as well as detailing the Genesis (the 32X was purchased new, but I cleaned it as well) and reconnecting them several times.

I also have another question regarding the X'Eye.

Can it play imported games from Japan? (I'm not going to import from Europe due to PAL restrictions on my NTSC TV, but I'm considering importing Japanese Mega Drive games.)

Japanese games should work on your X'eye. They work on mine, but that's becuase they're backups with their region coverted to NA NTSC. You could try DLing a jap game just to test it out and see if it works.

Dude, you're back! Now the boards are complete!

I'd wondered what had happened to you, and I'm glad you're back.

Umm, nothing to contribute about your question; I just wanted to say "wassssup."

Melf, good buddy! Why, I've missed you too. ^_^ Glad to see someone remembers me! *pours a bucket of cookies into your jar*

Hit me up on AIM some time, I'd like to talk. =)

Vicman-- I'll try that, but how do I DL a Japanese game to my X'Eye and put it in the cartridge port? o_o;

Oh Mega Drive games! DOH! Here I was thinking you were talking about Mega CD games! My Bad! I totally didn't focus on the fact that that's what you were talking about.

XD That's cool, man. But thanks for the great knowledge on SCD-- now I know I can try importing some stuff.

On a kind of related note, I want to backup a CD game of Popful Mail. How do I go about doing that?

If you just want to make a straight copy you should be able to do it like you would normally make a copy of any CD, put it the original, copy, put in a CD-R, and burn it.

If you want to extract the data from the disc and then burn it off. I'd suggest ripping the disc into iso-mp3 format, creating a cue file with Sega Cue Maker, and then loading the cue and burning off your copy.

For a straight copy just use Clone CD or Disc Juggler, if you can't use those then use Alcohol 120% or Nero Burning ROM. If you want to extract the CD w/o the extraction being in some weird format, i.e. anything other than Bin-Cue/ISO-MP3, then use either Magic ISO, Ultra ISO, or ISO Buster.

If you're not familiar with anything I just said here's a forum thread that should help you: http://forums.segaxtreme.net/lofiversion/index.php/t12401.html

http://www.segacd.org used to be of help but it seems down. Here's some google caches of the guides:

www.segacd.org/expression/site_3/rip-iso.html+&hl=en&client=firefox-a]ripping (http://72.14.207.104/search?q=cache:ct9My8iezbYJ:
www.segacd.org/expression/site_3/restore-iso.html+&hl=en&client=firefox-a]restoring (http://72.14.207.104/search?q=cache:ticJPvngtyQJ:[url) from iso-mp3

P.S. in the Restoring from ISO-MP3 guide don't even worry about converting the mp3's into wav files. Just create a cue sheet with the audio as mp3 and load the cue sheet into Nero, Nero will burn it fine and you won't have any audio/video synch issues.

Lastly google is your friend. When in doubt google it. :)

X'Eye indeed works with the 32x. I haven't yet done it myself, but I've talked to several people who say it worked fine on their system. It does indeed block the CD door, and because of the way the patch works, you have to use the "proper" Genesis 2 a/v hookup rather than the rca ports. I think the CD 32x games may not work because of the way the system separates cd mode from cart mode, but I'm not sure.

Thanks a billion, both of you. I'll look into that, Vicman-- and now I can play KC again! =] YAY!

you know you could get a tototek RAM cart to play DL'd roms (in reference to the comment earlier about jap games). I have been dieing to invest in one, but I keep forgetting to when I get money.

But then I don't game as much anymore.

It's creepy, I haven't played vid games in almost a year now... NONE WHAT SO EVER. Yet the two websites I spend all my time are segaxtreme.net and here at sega-16...

If your wondering how I could NOT play my genny. Well it's mainly because I am very very busy. The only time I get free time is when I come on here to this site while at work. At home I barely have the time to sleep in between school and other jobs that don't give me access to a computer.

That and spending any free time you have going nakey swimming. Nakey swimming with drunken pals over playing video games. Sorry but the choice should be obvious...
