My HDTV, which is able to display SNES and other older composite signals perfectly, doesn't work so well with my Genesis. For some reason, the image is always in black & white- regardless of whether the signal goes directly into the TV or through a VCR. The problem exists whether I have my 32X plugged in or not.
Could this have something to do with signal strength?

You're not supposed to use Genesis on HDTV, that much I know. I can't give you any advice more specific than that right now.

Does your HDTV have a non-HD mode?

The TV does have a non-HD mode, and it works fine with all my other old consoles: Jaguar, N64, SNES, etc.
What are the reasons that the Genny should not be used on an HD?

I don't exactly know the reasons why, but when I was buying an HDTV I asked around on the boards about hooking up classic systems to it and the majority of them said it was a bad idea.

In non-HD mode there shouldn't be any problems.

The people saying it is not a good idea are momos.
Old school consoles on projection screens is risky, but as long as you keep the screen changing. (don't pause it and leave) Projection screens shouldn't be a problem.
Black and White could be a couple problems. Tell me first, what kind of cables do you use, (coaxial, composite, SCART) and what region is your TV and genny. (I am figuring both NTSC cause you call it genny).
