I just got a 32X yesterday. I own the Original Genesis, but I'm missing the Conversion cable. Is it really required for the 32X software to fully function through the Original model Genesis, or is the 32X not working properly?

I think you really need it for that.

My problem is that I'm lacking the AV cable and have to play in RF. :yuck:

It's required.

you can build one using some wire, a 9 pin din plug, but the third plug (a 10 pin custom mini din) for into the 32x is hard to locate... so all I did was take a bit of the metal ring from a broken genny 2 A/V plug and wired it up with sewing needles as pins.

It worked like a charm

Alternatively, you can buy one for two dollars at sega-parts.com.

They list having Daytona USA CCE Netlink for the saturn, and I sent them an email and they don't have it.

Just because they list it doesn't mean they have it.

I tried buyin an Activator from them. The transaction when fine till I got an email from saying that they were sold out of them. This was after I got am email from them saying they received my order. They are sold out of a lot of things on their site. Not only that but they do not provide all the services they list on their site. They no longer repair sega cd units. I managed to fix mine. On to the topic... try ebay... or build your own :). If i had a spare i would send it over. Oh if you are just using a 32x and a Genny (no cd) make sure you have the connector thing where the Sega CD goes. Some games screw up if it is not there. Virtua Racing is the only one I can think of at the moment.

No, that's your console's fault. The 'connector thing' - the side expansion port - makes no difference whether it has a CD attached or not. Let's see why:

You press the Mega Drive's power button. For the sake of it, it is a Model II console.
The BIOS of the console is activated. It first looks at the expansion port, to see if anything is connected. If so, it allows whatever's attached to the port to load, which is why you don't see the 'PRODUCED BY OR UNDER LICENSE FROM SEGA ENTERPRISES LTD' when you turn on the console with the CD drive attached.
If there's nothing plugged into the expansion port, the machine then assumes it's OK to load from the cart slot. First it scans the cart for the 'SEGA' string found in the header of the game's ROM, and if it does, it continues to load the game. If not it just refuses to work any further.
The console then runs the game as usual. This is the only point where the 32X can kick in - rather than sending cart data to the Mega Drive as usual, the 32X instead pretends it's a cart. The 32X cart data runs from the 32X, which passes the 32X data to the Mega Drive console. In a sense, the 32X translates advance 32X cart code into language the Mega Drive can understand, performing additional work along the way (scaling, rotation, texture mapping etc).

As such, the 32X can't tell whether you have a CD console or not. It's your own crazyfool gaming rig that's at fault, not the console itself.

I don't feel like making a connector for a 32X. Does anybody have the connector cable that goes from 32X to Genesis? If not, what are some places that have one.

Actually, I have a Genesis 2 and I have the conversion cable, but not the connector cable that is required to go from 32X to Genesis. The conversion cable is for Genesis 1 systems that need to use the newer model system connector.

You guys do realize that we've discussed this in the tech help section.

Its possible to just connect the 32x to the Genesis 2 by just using some 22 awg wiring. as long as you don't connect the 5v your fine.

Its teh same with the Genny 1 too. Tho I never got that to work properly. :-/

Maybe. But I found a cord for the gen 1 so yeah. But other than that my genny 2 and 32x have no problems whatsoever.
