I picked up a Sega CD today (brand new, I'll tell the story later) but can't get the CD door to stay closed.

I have a brand new 1st gen genny with two Sega AC adapters, the stereo connector and AV cables. The Genesis works just fine by itself and just fine when hooked up to the CD.

The CD "Ready" and "Access" lights work fine. The Ready light stays on and the Access light blinks, as intended. I get the Sega CD screen and control panel. However, whenever I put a game in, the door closes acts like it's going to works and the opens.

Any clue to what is going on here?

Thanks in advance!

Well, this seems to be working now. Could it be that after all these years in storage it just had to warm up a bit and work a few times???

SegaCDs need TLC to work properly. :D

I haven't had the exact same issue, but I do find with various Sega CDs and my old TurboDuo they seem to be finnicky when I first pull them out of mothballs but are rock solid after playing it for a while. Hell, my X'Eye even plays cart games first time every time without fiddling with the cart slot now. Same with the CD drive, when I first plugged it up a few months ago it seemed to be a little picky, and the door didn't stay shut. Now it works like it's brand new.

The model one SCD s door is run with gears. If the gears are off just a little bit it screws it up. You said it does it when you insert a game so I would bet the laser lens assembly isn't coming all the way up when it closes.

The assembly is connected to the gears that make the door open and close. It's one big mess as far as I am concerned and is something that seems to be made to break. This is the only reason I like the model 2 more.

As I always recommend checking, check the open/close switches on the drive.

its funny. i used some of my old hit it or shake philosphy to try to get it to work and irt did. you have to shake it ech time and hope it works. is it possible to take it apart and fix whatever it is that needs to be fixed. i have version 1.10

Please don't hit or shake it, you won't get sympathy if you break it. The Model 1's use the Sony KSS240a laser, which are sensitive.. You hit it or shake it, you may break the laser assembly.

CHECK THE DOOR SWITCH.

Could you be a little more detailed? There is no button on the Model 1 to open and close it so tell us what you mean by switch.

I'd try hitting it. If that dont work shake the shit out of it and cuss it, maybe pour a beer into it. Remember you can always duct tape it if something breaks off. If you can't duck it, fuck it.

When the tray opens and closes, it hit's a small switch inside to tell the system it fully closed or opened.. If it doesn't engage, it will reverse the tray motor, incase someone's hand got stuck or any other foreign object.

Where is this switch located? I have the same problem. I actually found a disc lodged above the tray. I removed that but the try keeps going in and out.
