View Full Version : PS1 SCART?

I was wondering something... Does a PS1 SCART cable work with a US Playstaion/PSone?
I see there are some with composite hookups - it appears it is for the Guncon, but I take it the audio out is for hooking it up to a stereo system? I was thinking of getting a PS1 SCART cable with those hookups, and I'm curious.
it would... you just need a place to plug the SCART into

I'm not sure about the PSOne. They may have omitted stuff like RGB to save money. The PS1 on the other hand should be fine.

PSOne has RGB.. Those little LCD attachments use it.

Yeah, those RCA connectors are pretty much so you can get a regular stereo out as well as use the Guncon. I have a little adapter thingie that does the same thing so I can still use the Guncon plugged into the video port while the PS1/2 is actually connected with component cables.

Why does the Guncon require it's own composite video feed? I never understood that. Namco guns are a pain in the ass.

Because their gun gets the Sync from Composite video.
Namco guns are different, and they likely take more resources to operate, but easier to wire up...

Not as easy to wire up as the Sega Light Phaser which just plugged in to the controller port, nothing more. No calibration screen, no video input, it just worked and it was accurate enough... certainly far more accurate than the Wii remote.

I have a PS1 light gun, and it's only controller port...
I think Segas light phaser did the same as NES zapper.. Find black, miss, find white, hit.

I'm not sure of the ins and outs of the technology, but the Guncon 1 was probably the best home light gun ever. It was quite a bit more accurate than the generic pre-Guncon PSX and Saturn guns.
Too bad I still like Sega's light gun games better. Ghost Squad + HOTD = <3

xbox light guns work the same as guncon..
even though the controller port on an xbox is USB, note it has FIVE pins, not FOUR.
When making the USB adapter for my xbox, i discovered the fifth pin was video SYNC..
That makes the idea the same as the guncon, as both use the video sync.

The Guncon 3 for the PS3 is probably the worst gun ever.

wireless?

Goodness no. Wires all over the place, actually. One USB from the PS3 to the gun, and one USB from the PS3 to the weird lights you must hang off of the top front of your TV (one light on each corner).

Ahh, the gun doesn't see the TV period, it uses those lights to sense position.
I guess with LCD, CRT, and Plasma compatibility, it's required. Though, the Wii seems to do good even without the sensor bar.

wii can see position without sensor bar or strictly G? The Guncon gun was cool on PSX with Time Cop(?) I think that was the game I used to play at my buddies. I remember having to plug the gun into the composite video and then it passed thru to TV. Nothing like the Zapper where a white boxes would flash at targets when you pulled the trigger lol. The NES gun doesn't work one bit on an LCD. Mine anyway.

Or any non-SD CRT for that matter. I like how the Sega Light Phaser was so advanced that it didn't need those retard white boxes like the Zapper did. I'm tellin' ya, the Sega Light Phaser was designed by space aliens from the future. For some reason the Guncon needed to sync to the video but the screen still flashed white anyway if I recall. Lame lame lame! The SNES Superscope didn't flash white, but it did have an IR sensor. I think it was the same story with the Menacer. The Wii Remote is the least accurate "pointing device". Where you are pointing on the screen is NEVER where the Wii thinks it is pointing... it's always going to be significantly higher or lower depending on the sensor bar.

Oh I figured the SNES SS6 just used the IR for it's own wireless needs and not for aiming. The SS6 was cool because in some games you could turn on a perminate cursor and it tracked so it wasn't a "targets" only when the trigger is pulled kinda deal.

Eh? The sensor bar is REQUIRED for pointing at the screen. It doesn't need it for accelerometer functions and such.
Even so, the sensor bar/wiimote relationship is extremely accurate.

The Wiimote isn't supposed to work like a lightgun, it's more like a mouse than anything.
That being said, if you play Ghost Squad on it if you calibrate it correctly the gun is VERY accurate, especially if you have a Nyko Perfect Shot. I can't wait for HOTD 2/3 to come out on it so I can finally dual weild at home in HOTD 2.

I've heard some people didn't need it..

The Sega Saturn "Stunner" gun could kind of do this (it attached to the controller ports and nothing else). On the "Input yo name" screen an onscreen cursor would track around wherever you were pointing your gun without flashing white and without IR sensors (and without pulling the trigger).

Or perhaps the power light on the TV is good enough sometimes, depending on the wavelength..
