View Full Version : My Unbridled Love For Resident Evil 4

I just finished Resident Evil 4 on the Wii. I've owned the game for two years now (originally the GameCube version) yet couldn't get past the tenth hour. It wasn't because it was difficult, there were just too many other games I wanted to play.

Well, I finally completed the game a couple days ago, and I absolutely loved it. I absolutely recommend buying it for the Wii, PS2, or GC. It had so many "holy shit!" moments. You know, when you're playing a game and you see or do something you've never done before?

I never finished RE1, and never tried 0, 2, 3, or Veronica. I'll have to give them all a try, not to mention The Umbrella Chronicles. Has anyone else played RE4? Any thoughts?

My brother loved that game. One of his favs. We used to go over and watch him play it. We would take turns being the "driver". Good stuff

I imported Resident Evil 4 for cube from US when it was released, just so I could play it early. I really can't get on with any of the earlier Resi games, the controls are awful, and the pace is too slow. The fourth installment may aswell not be a Resident Evil game at all theres so many differences. I love the game, have played through it several times and put it up there as one of the greatest games of all time. Everthing about it is quality, the Mercanaries mode which you unlock when completing the game, which is a game in itself is also brilliant.

When I eventually get a Wii I shall probably buy the Wii version to play too.

I haven't tried the Mercenaries mode yet, I just started the Separate Ways mode, which is awesome in its own right. It took me 16 hours to beat the main campaign (maybe add an hour more had I not gone through the first 10 hours before), and all the extras look to add an additional few hours. It's really amazing, because outside of rpg's, you really don't see games with this kind of length these days.

I'm still playing this game on the PS2. It took me a while to get used to the moving camera - unlike the static one of previous RE games, but I am delighted I have as this is one of the most awesomest games ever. My only gripe is that there are no zombies and other traditional Resident Evil enemies, however, one can overlook this with the fantastic gameplay.

I haven't beaten my RE 1 game on the Saturn yet. I've beaten RE 2, 3 and Code Veronica all on the Dreamcast. I haven't touched RE 0 and 4 for the Gamecube. They are all in the closet. So many games to play! So little time!

Easilly the best two games of the entire series IMHO.

See, now I have to go back and play the Remake of RE1. I remember it being beautiful, I just never really got into it.

What do people think of Veronica on DC?

I like the monks that chant "Go Hitler! Go Hitler! Go Hitler!"

I thought the Resident Evil Code Veronica sucked ass. RE4 is the first and ONLY good Resident Evil game

I liked RE 4 quite a bit and i normally don't get that into new games that much but i played the hell out of it. I loved the first resident evil when it first came out and the second one blew me away when i was a lot younger i was engulfed in the second one and can remember staying up for two days straight almost with my brother playing it. I beat RE3 on dreamcast and just got veronica about a year an a half ago and honestly haven't gotten that into it, it seems alright but just idk, just not feelin it really

Awesome :D
I used to stay up until 4am with the lights off playing Code Veronica. Half in love, half afraid, glorious Resident Evil in Dreamcast quality. Claire Redfield is much more pleasing to the eye than Leon.

I like Re 4, although I think it went away too far from the original formula. Itīs mostly an Action-game, while the others focused more on Adventure-elements.

So, RE 1 is still the best and most atmospheric imho; the sequels suffered from the story becoming more stupid. In RE 1 it was a mystery where the Zombies came from, and all the player wanted to do is escape. It really gave you that feeling you must only fight to survive. Now with Code Veronica and RE 4 we have characters acting cool and hunting Umbrella etc on purpose...makes me think "itīs your own fault for hunting Zombies, so DIE!".

Also, RE 0 is easily the worst part of the series. The story is so retarded...Rebecca, who is a completely weak loser in RE 1 has made such experiences and killed such monsters a few hours before, yet she never even mentions it and can hardly defend herself later?

And in RE 2 I always wonder why Claire, being a civilian, comes to town equipped with a combat knife to begin with and has no problem whatsoever handling all kinds of weapons...

Now RE 4īs story was itīs major weakpoint: No Zombies, but a sect led by a madman who wants to bring down the USA! Can it get any more trashy and clichee? The enemies are fucking Spanish Taliban!

I know this sounds harsh, but I wanted to point out that although I like RE generally since I first played the japanese part 1 when it came out, the stories are really sinking lower and lower...and the genre-change of RE 4 left especially many old RE-fans unsatisfied. I think it would have been better to make this a spin-off; after all, the "spin-off" Code Veronica plays much more like RE than the real RE 4.

I like the monks that chant "Go Hitler! Go Hitler! Go Hitler!"

I believe you did not understand the monks....;)

Yes I did, and that's what they say. What the hell else would they say? "Go Mussolini Go Mussolini Go Mussolini"??? I don't think so.

I've been told that Code Veronica is the best besides RE4, but I'm hesitant to get into the rest of the series. One of the reasons I loved RE4 was because of the non-stop action.

On a "barely related, but I don't want to start a new thread" note, has anyone played the Fatal Frame series? I've heard nothing but great things, and the people involved with the upcoming Wii sequel give me high hopes for it.

Indeed, if the action is what you liked about RE 4 you should not play the rest of the series; it is just like the other way around, that many old fans donīt like RE 4 BECAUSE of that non-stop-action. You would feel that older RE-games are too slow and lack action. There are pretty few enemies and the action is not even very exciting when it happens.

BTW, whoever told you CV was the best part beside RE 4 is a complete retard. It is big, yes, and had great graphics for the time, but the story is worse and the setting less atmospheric than in the prequels.
Most people loved CV when it came out, but now that the once breathtaking graphics donīt impress anyone anymore it kind of leaves a bad taste in the mouth...

Yeah, RE4 is a totally different animal; you can't really use it to judge how you like RE games.

I have beat RE1, 2 and 3. I never could beat Code Veronica but I had it for the DC. Anyway point is I really like the RE games but I ended up selling my GC right before RE4 finally came out! I ended up renting it and playing about 5 hours into it at my friends house who actually bought my GC lol! I brought it back to BBV and despite really liking the game I never got to play it again for some time. Then I found it in a Rogers Video last year used for the PS2. It was like $10 as it was in a bin and they are trying to get rid of so many used games so I just said what they hey and bought it. I don't even have a PS2 so I left it at my friends house who only lives a block away and has one and played it every weekend until I eventually beat it. It took me awhile but it was a great game. Long for a RE game and it's a technical tour de force on the NGC. It actually looks better on the GC despite being released to the PS2 a whole year later! Of course it was built from the ground up to take advantage of the GC hardware so that isn't surprising. I liked the GC both technically and from a simple design point of view. Almost for many of the same reasons I really love the DC. It's the game to show off what the GC was capable of.

No wonder the GC-version looks better; the GC just has more power than the PS2. But nevertheless the PlayStation 2-version looks very neat too, far better than anyone would have expected from the old hardware.

whoever told you CV was the best part beside RE 4 is a complete retard.

I'm afraid I have to agree with that, as much as I did like CV it never even remotely made me feel uneasy playing in the middle of the night (as any RE games atmosphere should) and I found some of it stupidly frustrating, much more so than any other games in the series.
Lots of areas in CV suffer from looking far too crisp and clean, as well as it being too light everywhere.
Possibly the only RE game for me that has zero replay value, completed once and never went back.

My God! I had a go on Resident Evil 4 last night and, whereas before I have done nothing but enjoyed it, it really pissed me off. I am not sure why or how this has happened. I am saddened by this. :(

Completed Resident Evil 4 the other night.
To summarize: A truly amazing game, but lacks zombies.
