Currently the Paralympics are taking place, and I must say: Kudos to the one-legged skiiers! Not only is that sport difficult as hell.. it also looks awesome:

Mouthed off in the SNK Neo Geo thread. The usual stuff.

And is that Murumasa you're playing, Rusty? The screenshots I've seen all look amazing, but how does it play?

It is pretty much a 2D hack n slash/beat em up with some RPG elements...meaning, you gain experience and levels and more health etc. You also have to buy & make food (not as boring as it sounds) plus you have some spirit dude who forges new swords for you (when you have the experience and # of souls collected).

There are two different modes though. One favors not button mashing and more evade and strike, the other (which I like) is flat out whooping ass. Controls are easy (I was wailing on the first boss so much I got a 100+ hit combo), but I think the analog "up" being jump is annoying. Maybe it will be better with the classic controller. Back tracking kinda sucks, but it could be worse.

The music is cool and the backgrounds are astounding. Everything in our meager Wii collection is the standard "5-10 min party game", Muramasa is a *REAL* game.

Last night I was playing Phantasy Star II after a long time (read: about 6 months after playing it for the last time with the XBLA version), and, when I saw Rolf's portrait, I started remembering part of mid-2006, when I first discovered this site, which was when Ken had that as his picture in all of his articles and Reader Roundtable entries. I've never owned or used an Activator, but from what I've heard from other people here on SEGA-16 it sounds like it absolutely sucks.

The only Activator I've ever seen in person was one that was possibly broken, it was traded in and it didn't work at all.

I thought the thing was cool until how it actually worked was explained, then it was just another case of "awesome idea hampered by limited technology". The thing sounded like it was supposed to be the grandfather of "Project Natal", but it came off as the off-spring of that shitty ass U-Force NES controller.
