I'm an old school gamer at heart. No problem if the game's hard (I've beat the Nes version of Battletoads losing only two lives, that should give you an idea ;-) )

First of all because you are unwilling to spend lots of cash, and on second thought this is an average game anyway.

If alien soldier is average would you please enlighten me as to which megadrive games are superior? I just think a lot of people aren't very good at it due to the controls taking some practice and the bosses require strategy. Gunstar heroes is great, but I like alien soldier almost as much

Contra, Gunstar Heroes, Mega Turrican, even Rocket Knight Adventures which I am no big fan of.
AS pushes the MD too far, resulting in flickering from level 1; the whole character- and monster-designs are mediocre, the bosses are technically good, but look terribly stupid design-wise...and the whole game is based on the 2 minutes of shooting small enemies, then battle a boss-concept, which is highly repetetive. Then thanks to the trial-and-error-concept if you lose you just repeat the 2 minutes to try the boss once more....this doesn´t even come close to the originality of Contra and Gunstar Heroes.
AS is just overhyped because it´s from Treasure and because it is ultr@ r@re, but it really was Treasure´s worst game until then. Just something for die-hard-Sega-fanboys imho.

Of course you are free to disagree; however, I got rid of my copy and I am not sad about it.

Far less than that IMO. It is rare and never got a release stateside, but isn't good enough of a game to be worth such high prices. Like 108 said your better off with Contra and Gunstar Heroes.
