View Full Version : Side By Side: Wonder Boy in Monster World vs. Dynastic Hero
Our Side By Side series returns with a direct comparison between the Genesis' Wonder Boy in Monster World and the Turbo Duo's Dynastic Hero. Which is the definitive version? You'll have to read the article (http://www.sega-16.com/Feature-%20Side%20by%20Side%20Wonder%20Boy-Dynastic%20Hero.htm) to find out!

Methinks you have the heading of the article wrong. You have "Dungeon Explorer" up again.
Other than that, though, it's of the usual S16 quality... =)

From what I'm hearing...
I prefer the Duo's music.
It may not be as humm-able, but it feels more lethargic.
But yeah, the dynastic hero looks like a dork.

Wonderboy is cheap, you say? 1 or 2 bucks? I didn't know that. I thought they were rare, silly me.
Monster World IV is the rare one, and perhaps the MD version of MWIII may cost a bit. The U.S. cart is pretty cheap.
It's one of the best action/RPGs around. I highly recommend it.

Great! I'll go after anything cheap.

My only exposure to the Monster World series has been through Dragon's Curse for the TurboGrafx. One of my favourite Turbo games, that one..
Reading that article reminded me, that in a Turbo Zone Direct catalog I picked up years ago, there was a short description for Dynastic Hero.
How accurate is that description of the game? In many of the other blurbs in the catalog, the writer seemed to give the games a 5-minute once over and pump out a paragraph of storyline revealed during the openings of each title. Informative!
EDIT: Bloody Tripod does a crappy job of hosting images. Here's a better one.. http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/5013/dynasticheroad013yj.jpg

That description is kind of misleading about Wonder Boy, but the rest is pretty much true. Mr. Phallus-Head just couldn't match Scion's true WB manhood!
I've seen people pay an insane amount of money for the U.S. version, which is quite rare. I have the Japanese edition, which I got off eBay for a measly $10!

I hadn't realize how rare the U.S. release of Dynastic Hero was. In that Turbo Zone Direct catalog, it's priced the same as the rest of the Super CD games ($49.99). Then again, rarity isn't necessarily expected upon original release (this sentence does not apply to Ogre Battle).
Dynastic Hero has to be one of the wackiest localizations I've come across.. he's a beetle! Why!
The thing that turned me off most about DH was the appaling lack of parallax scrolling. The Genny game was a 5meg cart and it had plenty of it. The Duo game just looked so washed out and plain. :yuck:

If you want a wanky localization, see the Brazillian editions

Simply bizarre... the dragon form became a man with a shotgun, and the remade Wonderboy wields a blue rabbit in place of a sword.
Neat.
Lol! DH seems almost tame by comparison. Those wacky Brazilians.
