Yes, the 32X also uses regional lockout. You have to mod it as well to play all games from all regions. Not all games are locked out though.

MD1 is easy, just find JP1/2/3/4... MD2s are more hassling. I don't really know much about 32X. There's some guides in gamesx.com

I thought the 32X only had PAL/NTSC incompatibilities. From what I know, 32X games check to see what region the Genesis/Mega Drive is. For example, a US 32X and a US Space harrier plugged into a Japanese Mega Drive will display a "Super 32X" logo when powered up, but it will not when that same hardware and cartridge are plugged into a US Genesis.

you need to have 50/60 switch in 32X too in order to play imports. I know nothing about it.... yet... as soon as I get my 32X, I'll find it all out.

The 50/60 switch in both the 32X and Genesis would be mandatory to play PAL 32X games. You'd probably need a region switch in the Genesis set to EU as well.

What does a typical US TV do when you give it some 50Hz ?

Ha, you are right, and it was fun testing that :). Now I'm even more convinced my 32X is a Japanese one shipped to the US with the logo switched. (You might remember how I love my 32X for its Asian cartridge slot, something that saves me from using the Game Genie every time I want to play an Asian game)

Picture rolls.

typical EU TV displays both 50 and 60Hz fine, only some rare stuff gets rolling when it gets 60Hz (I've yet to see one, even 25+ year old russian TVs like 60Hz)... you just need RGB or Component for colors.

Us americans have always had 60Hz television. I assume the companies don't think anyone here has a need for TVs that can show a picture that is slower than what we already have, and they thusly don't offer the support. It sure would make things easier trying to play PAL games.

pal is technically faster.

1-50 in 1sec or 1-60 in 1sec to build up a screen.

50 Hz is just too small to look at.

Can someone just post a simple step-by-step guide to this mod? I mean, it's like supposed to be so simple to do, but I can't make heads or tails of the French guide!

50 times a sec is not faster than 60 times a sec....

ive had a friend look at the french link for 32x mod (there french :D ) and all you need to is in the second lot of pictures a simple switch across point A and point B

So you solder two wires to pint A and B and the switch is a go? Is that what your saying chriskrazy?

chriskrazy

well from the understanding i have so far yes, i have done it to my 32x but i have not tested yet due to so far only having pal 32x games

Depends on the game, if it's a 32x game the picture usually either rolls (if I only switch the 32x) or goes blank. Some games that are not PAL optimized, such as Mortal Kombat 2, will play at the proper speed and full screen as long as I switch both the 32x and the MD.
