Has any heard of work on a Sega Cd emulator for Dreamcast? I have heard of NeoGeoCd emulator that is now available for the Dreamcast and even very rough Saturn emulator now. The Version of I have of Gens is actually pretty good. It seems they finally figured out how to emulate the sound decently. Is there an reason other then the lack of popularity of the Sega CD why this has not been done yet? Google searches have only led to lame forums loaded with arguments that have little to do with the subject.

The SEGA CD can not be emulated on the Dreamcast.

Sure, if someone did try they could get it to run some games at about 5 fps, but it can't do anymore - why? Because the DC doesn't have enough memory!

If you want SEGA CD emulation on your console, go for a modded Original XBOX or use a PSP.

Or better yet, just buy a Sega CD

I'm actually quite surprised it won't since there is already a PC Engine/Turbografx-16/CD Emulator and a Neo-Geo CD Emulator out there for the Dreamcast. It just seems natural that it should. I didn't think it would require more memory to run Sega CD games.

The Dreamcast is more than capable of emulating the measly SegaCD, it can emulate PS1 games perfectly AND improving the textures an resolution at the same time.

I have 3 actually. :) Just seems odd no one had tried it yet.

Reverse-compatibility is going to become an antiquated notion with the next generation of consoles, I think.

I used to be a member of DCemu, and according to the hackers/whatever there, they said it was no a go as the Genesis and Sega Cd would both need to be emualted at the same time as both CPU were being used.

a program can't be so memory hog... I've seen NES emulators in QB that use as much RAM as there is in NES, plus few KB more for vars and code...

Sadly, with the advent of digital distribution and other Web2.whatever buzzwords, console backwards-compatability will probably end up like the PC retro scene. Woohoo, I'm drowning in Lucasarts floppy disks that I'll never be able to use without tracking down and building a genuine 486 machine because nobody 'just has a 486 lying around'.

It is a bit odd having to use a Dos emulator like Dos Box on a Pc just to play a Pc game on a Pc.

Not really.

Even if you booted DOS on a modern PC, the game may not work because of differences in archetecture nowadays.. "Runtime Error", things like that.

Or if it does work, it may run WAY to fast as the games didn't use the vertical sync as a timer.. (or as a modern PC uses, the sound card, as I was told before)

I still find it odd. What other standards have evolved like the Pc?
Usually what ever it is simply replaced with something better leaving little room of improvement. Some life's are extended for other purposes ,cassettes being used for music instead of dictation for example, but how many enjoy the unending popularity of the Pc.
