a weird one I have always liked was Altered Beast, cause it makes the game look gritty, and hardcore!


EWJ 1, and 2 are great aswell, but after that, for the most part... the cases suck!

It has more to do with how the main picture only takes up little more than a quarter of the box.

Phantasy Star II (plain cool), SFII: SCE (what an action shot!), Shadow of the Beast (suffers from the same fate as Technoclash, sadly..), Sub-Terrania (awesome detail), Toejam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron (what a silly pair.).

That's because much of it was done by Roger Dean. I loved how most of their games came with a big poster of the cover art.

I used to think a lot of the Japanese box art was fine and dandy, but these past few years I'm looking back on them and seeing they're not all that great, either...the SOR series, Strider (which I'm surprised people actually like), Arrow Flash...it's like 'hey, you can either get the Genesis one with some crap box art or the nearly as crappy Mega Drive art, which more often than not, has some generic anime-feel to it.'

I will say I am very susceptible to the lovely Mega Drive Contra Hard Corps art, though.

Box art is usually drawn and printed way before , as in a half-year to a full year, before the game is complete. So seeing oddities in characters just shows old development ideas for characters.

You forgot Wings of Wor which was my favorite Boris cover by far. It even fits the game.

Other Boris covers:

Golden Axe 2 - Dude's sword is waaay too short (but chick looks good)
Hardball - Extremely gay
Turrican - Worst cover ever
Mike Ditka Power Football - Not bad, unfortunately the game sucked.
