My favourite's the Dreamcast. It's as though it was designed to look nice on purpose, rather than a squat black matte-plastic box. Although I never really saw the MD1 as a turntable - funny, that.

Not a big fan of the SMS1. It's off-centre, and has that weird industrial-orange/dried blood circuit board display.

While it doesn't look bad or anything, the model 2 Genesis looks plain compared to the original model.

Gen2 is to Gen1 as the original Gameboy is to the Turbo Express.

Because its unusual, I understand how some people might not appreciate the look of the original Genesis (I'm not saying you're one of them). But I've always found the Genesis 2 to look nice, but very plain or "safe".


I do find it unusual that anyone would find the CDX to be ugly though. :p

This might get me the "DUH!" award, but I look at the ages of those who side with the first model Genesis/Mega Drive and of those who side with the latter iteration, and it seems that the preference depends on which model you grew up with. While I have come to appreciate the initial model more over time, I cannot help but cast my support for the second version, based solely on the fact that I have a feeling of nostalgia due to its importance in my childhood.

Yes I made it last year for an SMS mod comp on sega8bit.com, It still works ok but I dont use it. I have another SMS with a 50/60 hz mod I use to play.

There is another SMS mod comp for 2008 kicking off soon on sega8bit, do you guys not do a Mega Drive/ Genesis mod comp? It's a great idea, just make sure you give people plenty of time or you wont get many enterys, we only had 3 enterys in the end after 11 people said they would be involved.

The VCS looks fabulous, while of course it stands compared to every other console with its 70's TV matching wood grain effect panel, thats what makes it so special now. It looks like it comes from the era it does, just like the original Master System looks really 80's. Much better than some bland box.

That doesn´t help it much; yeah, the VCS looks very typical for the 70´s, as does the SMS 1 for the 80´s....but I believe the typical looks of that time were pretty aweful.
Just because I was born in the 80´s does not mean I have to appreciate an 80´s haircut and clothing either... or walk around like the dudes from Miami Vice.

I love see-through systems. My favorite Game Boy Pocket/Color back in the day was the clear one, and my NGPC is clear. I wish they'd make a clear DS.

I'm partial to the 1st model Japanese Saturn (I'm not sure if any other system has used that color) as well as the original PC Engine (mostly because of its compact size).


Some of my least favorites include the original 2600 (Yes, I know it was made in the 70's but with the wood paneling it looks like an antique!) and the XBox (Big, heavy, the giant "X," God, I hate the word "extreme").
