Dead right, I'd say. I had the Genesis one and the Game Boy version, and it's more than far to say the console one owned me on occasion. Fun as heck, and later spawned the best video game tie-in cartoon since the original Super Mario Bros. Super Show.

Aside from an exclusive level, does anyone remember if there were any substantial differences between this and the SNES version? All I can remember is GamePro pointing out the differences in graphics...

The only difference in graphics are color and having different backgrounds. I preferred the look of the Genesis version, which is darker and has backgrounds that, while not as intricate, are just better backgrounds IMO.

This game is really fun, the cartoon is great, too. Good graphics, music, gameplay, and of course, a great sense of humor. :D

Also the SNES had lower resolution. I'm not sure if that's an accurate way of describing it but you saw more of the level in one screen on the Genesis than the SNES. From what I've read Genesis had more frames of animation. SNES definitely has nicer graphics, particular the backgrounds with extra effects. Genesis was still no slouch in graphics and music.

Seeing less of the level on the SNES version though really bothers me after having played the Genesis ones.

EWJ and EWJ2 are probably my favourite games of all time. Just so creative, fun, funny and bizarre. The final boss was a bit disappointing but the ending was hilarious.

Highly overrated game in my opinion. The game play feels very loose and out of control like other David Perry games. Still not bad.

Having no password is an instant turn off. The graphics are great however, and I do like the music.

7/10

I think it looked quite good and was weird and wacky but it did not play very well,i found it quite annoying to be honest so i will say average.

I feel differently. When going back to play it recently I found it to be even better than I remembered. The controls aren't as tight as first party Sega platformers but it's definitely one of the better ones out there. Each level is full of new and interesting things and the animation is fantastic. I'm not a big fan of the sequels though.

It is pretty damn difficult though.

Surely some fifty odd comments must have been lost in the hack, there can't be this little on EWJ?

Whatever the case this is one of the best Genesis games, the only knock is that its ammunition system makes it so frontloaded that dying late can be a pain yet apart from pitfalls becomes decreasingly likely, which diminishes the replay value. Of course there's Hard mode, or as its uncensored title goes, Fuck That. The control complaints are unfounded. Thankfully its humour is unobtrusive.

I have to agree that the gameplay is a bit loose. The art style is what makes the game memorable; it's one of the best looking (and funniest) games of the 16 bit era. I think that's mainly why it's remembered and its loose gameplay is forgiven by most.

True, that was visible in the recent HD re-make. Still loved it in it's day. I even made a wallpaper of it recently..
