Samurai Showdown question...

There seem to be two different finales for a match: the opponent gets chopped in half, or the opponent's throat is cut and blood goes everywhere. Are there more?

I know how to lop the other guy in half, but I can't figure out what it takes to get the blood showers (which are pretty cool!). Can someone help me?

when playing the game in MAME, I notice that a strong slash often does the job for showers.
