All sonic games are good on dreamcast. Except sonic shuffle

Never got into Sonic Adventure 2 (not that I didn't like, I just don't own it...) but Sonic Adventure is an amazing game. It would be absolutely completely perfect if Sonic didn't talk. But we can't have everything.

SA1 has terrible cutscenes, but gameplay is pretty good for the most part (well, when some bug gets in the way).

I'ma say the same thing everyone else is saying. Sonic Adventure 1 and 2.

SA1 has better music, and it conveys a sense of speed better, and it also has a better story, if you ask me. SA2 is more "platformy," isn't quite as fast, and the music is, well, terrible, but it is prettier and has a better Chao system.

I don't think any of them are good, but I've only played Sonic Adventure which is a good 3d sonic game, but when being compared to other platformers of it's time and even ones today it's mediocre. I heard Sonic Shuffle was just a Mario Party knockoff.

I bought that one for $1 dollar in the case and I wish I had my dollar back.

I played "Sonic Advanture" and I got pretty far into the game (really close to the end).

SA2...I just got bored with it. I got tired of dicking around Knuckles levels looking for buried shit.

None of them come close to Sonic 3/Knuckles or Sonic CD. Period. I doubt we'll ever see those glory days again.

Take them for what they are, pretend there were NEVER any good Sonic games and the Adventure game (at least the first one) is worth it.

But DAMN it I will never forgive them for making Sonic talk.

What I find weird is that, there is a group of people out there who were actually upset that the guy who voiced Sonic, either quit or was just simply replaced, I don't know the details, all I know is that people were writing into Nintendo to get the old Voice actor to play as Sonic in Brawl. There was also many flame wars going on about this to.

Man whats next those same people are going to say Sonic 06 was better than the old games:lol:

well then you didn't play it long enough :p

I don't understand how people can sit through the mind numbing bullshit text cutscenes and endless menus of RPGs yet no one can seem to deal with the miniscule segments between levels in Sonic Adventure. Sonic Adventure is a top 3 Sonic game with Sonic 2 on the genesis and Sonic 1 on the game gear.

Sonic Adventure was okay, but SA2 is better IMO (though still not without faults). SA1 only runs at 30fps, and this subpar framerate really shows in spots (although the textures were awesome in its day and still look pretty good); SA2 runs at a consistent 60fps, and is much smoother. The lower framerate in SA1 actually gave me kind of a negative initial opinion of the Dreamcast hardware. I also didn't care for SA1's soundtrack as much, particularly the remixed Sonic 3D Blast (genesis version) tunes.

Gameplay wise, the first has more variety, but I think it actually has too much variety and the quality is really uneven. Everyone complains about the hunting stages in SA2 but I thought they were a big improvement on SA1's Knuckles stages. Plus I loathed Big the Cat (not necessarily the character himself, but his gameplay).

SA1 did have a better plot, although the cutscenes are kind of goofy, with too much facial animation. The voice acting is lame in both, although slightly better in SA2.

Anyway, stay far away from Sonic Shuffle. There was a Sonic song in Samba de Amigo, though. You should get that game.

I agree that a character like Sonic should never be able to talk. I am _not_ interested in hearing Mario or Link talking either.

Aside of that, Sonic Adventure 1+2 are good Dreamcast games, although the better Sonic games would be Sonic 123+Knuckles / CD / Chaotix

I don't see anything wrong with Sonic talking... SA1 has it done in not so good way, but SA2 has everything perfect.

What I find weird is that, there is a group of people out there who were actually upset that the guy who voiced Sonic, either quit or was just simply replacedAll the voice actors were up and replaced by the official English dub Sonic X voice actors.

Am I the only one who actually liked the English voice acting in that game? It's the way I always imagined the characters to sound. Particularly Dr. Eggman. Too bad his VA died.

Ryan Drummond has the voice of Sonic for me, no other guy does it right..... Eggman/Robotnik had a very fitting voice in SA.

Sega should send refunds to everyone who bought any non hand held Sonic game after SA2, ask for the games back and burn them all/put in landfills. Then, call Unleashed SA3 (if its good hopefully) and just go on and pretend every Sonic game after SA2 just never existed.

First point: Sonic fans. Sega do have dubious policies with voice actors, yes. Getting overly attached to whoever voiced Sonic in the 1993 animated series', however, is, well, silly.

Second point: let's not get all silly about this, but I absolutely adore the 360 Sonic The Hedgehog's soundtrack, and absolute sense of speed. It doesn't excuse the lackluster camera and slightly dubious plot, of course, but the game certainly isn't shit pressed into a disc like the Internet echo chamber says.

For example, I absolutely adore the Inlet theme, particularly 0:20 onwards. It reminds me of the drum intro to Green Forest in Sonic Adventure 2:

Tried to search the forum for this, and this seems like an appropriate place to ask:

Has anyone got a picture of the Sonic Adventure Limited Edition? Tried looking for it on the web, but it does a great job of hiding from me :P

It's only the European and American version localised for Japan, I think. My understanding is the original 1998 Japan release had a couple of game-breaking bugs, so the later 1999 EU/US release had a few bugfixes. This then came to Japan as the International Limited Edition; it's exactly the same cover as the regular Japanese cover, but with 'LIMITED EDITION' printed inside a small circle.

[edit] this reminds me, who'll be doing the annual 9/9 and 10/14 THE SOUL STILL BURNS threads? ;)

Ah, ok...

I was let to belive that the Limited Edition was some kind of rental only game, and that International Edition was another version all together. :)

No, you're right. In between Sonic Adventure's original Japanese release and its American release, Sonic Team did some bug fixes and graphical improvements. The American version was sold in Japan as Sonic Adventure International.

A few months prior to the Dreamcast's launch in America, you could rent a Dreamcast system with Sonic Adventure at Hollywood Video. That version of Sonic Adventure was the Japanese version translated into English (ie with the original graphics and bugs). I'm not sure if it actually says Limited Edition on the cover or if that's just what people call it. But yeah, it's a rental-only game.

Excellent, thank you for this information, I did not know that the "special" edition was the buggy japanese version :)

Sonic adventure was pretty cool. Sonic Adventure 2 was great, i liked the hide stuff levels with knuckles... That and I have the jp version of sa2 so i changed the spoken language to japanese and put english subtitles.. far more tolerable.

How anyone can stand those awful Japanese voices is beyond me. Well, everyone is diferent.

"I'm SONEEEK. SonEEEK the Hedgehog."

Yeah, that sounds so much better.

Tails' stages are kick-ass.
Agreed on Tails' stages.

Voices don't matter much to me anymore anyway, I play most of my games muted with the radio/stereo on anyway. I only ever so often play a game with the sound on...since the newest thing i have is the Dreamcast, I very rarely need to pay any attention to voiced/un-subtitled cutscenes and often skip through them when I can.

The games I play (for the most part) don't require paying attention to the sound. Games I won't play with the sound off:

Alone in the Dark 1 & 2, 4
Resident Evils
D, DII

yeah that about does it...atmospheric games sometimes require sound...
