I know the review (http://www.sega-16.com/review_page.php?id=1124&title=Lords%20of%20Thunder) was written a while ago, but when I see something that I beg to differ on, I feel I have to share my opinion. I feel that while the review was for the most part, dead on. There is one section that I passionately disagree with him on, and that would be the music.
First off, having listened to both the TurboDuo, and Sega CD versions of these games, I can tell you, either my ears deceive me, or something because the Sega CD versions remixes of the songs absolutely PUMMELED the originals into oblivion! The guitar, bass and drum (I have a hunch the drum was synthesized though) flowed much more naturally, the guitarist in particular seemed to speed things up, and intensify the atmosphere of the game.
Seriously, the originals were the songs that needed some fine tuning real bad, because I felt that the guitar was way too high-pitched, and one of the songs had keyboard that I could not stand (second to last stage, I think it was called Cielom or something like that) which was corrected for the Sega CD version, and in my books, the Sega CD version overall sounded much better to me. To the reviewer, I highly suggest you go back, listen to both versions again, and you'll see what I mean by "horrid sounding" in regards of the Turbo Duo version.

I remember buying Lords Of Thunder. I remeber starting it up and drooling over the Heavy Metal Soundtrack.
I also remember the pleasant surprise at hearing/recognizing instrumental versions of "Gates of Babylon" by Rainbow (for the water level, I think), & "Bark at the Moon" by Ozzy Osbourne (for the fire level, I think, again).
Or atleast, the tracks sounded errily similar to GoB & BatM. :D
The only other game I knew of at that time to license songs was Rock & Roll racing.
Does anyone know what the other songs are? (Or atleast, songs that aound eerily similar to the tracks.) It's been a LONG time since I heard the LoT soundtrack...

Sega CD version of Lords of Thunder sucks! The sound effects was too high, and the music was changes a bit so the gutiar sound less pitched! Sega CD version sucks, go with the Turbo Duo version!

If you have the Sega CD, then stick with the Sega CD version. I think the game is just an average side scroller, but with the enhanced sound and music, it is above average. I hate heavy metal, but it flows very well with this game.

GameUser...this thread is two years old. You need to stop the gravedigging. If you want to discuss this game, create a new topic.

I don't see why there should be a new topic since there already is one posted. Besides it's more organized to keep it all under one thread.

Maybe once or twice, but you've brought back about a dozen or more threads from the dead. Creating new topics makes for cleaner reading and is general forum etiquette.

Well, (and this is getting off-topic), but isn't the point of the review topics to discuss the reviews? It would be redundant to have multiple topics concerning a particular review.

That's true, but you still don't post in topics that have been dead for two years.

Why is this thread even in this section? It's not a MELF thread and it doesn't have a link to the Sega-16 review. Isn't that what this forum is supposed to be about? MELF, please decide for us!

Supposing I take you seriously - damn, you're right! Just now saw that! It should be in Site and Forum Feedback.
Not taking it seriously, "Oh, ha-ha Joe you are the funni3st person here lolhahahahha."

There's never really been a rule, but i'd let it pass since I think this was created because the review was put up because before we had a forum to make this sort of thread for.
I'd let Melf make the final decision though.

Isn't the first rule of every serious forum on the internet that newcomers should search for an old thread of a topic and post in it before making one?

The game may be fairly easy to complete, but the same can be said of many SHMUPS - the challenge comes from perfecting your play until you can complete the game on a single credit, which should take hours of practice - hell, i've been trying to 1cc Mushihime-sama for over 6 months now and i'm only just over half way :| Lords of Thunder might not be as challenging, but to an avid SHMUP player, the $20+ price should be well worth it.

I know this is old...but oh well.
I picked up a copy on ebay for 12 bucks and it's mint a few months back. Other than the on abmount of colors displayed I think this version stacks up perfectly to the Duo version. Even though it doesn't have as many on screen colors it still looks nice and colorful. A little bit off slow down here and there is annoying, but not bad. I find the sound effects are way too loud and there is no way to turn them down which is my biggest complaint. This game isn't difficult, but it is fun. I enjoy the shop and the ship selection. The levels are fun and the bosses are fairly unique. I think it's work the price, much better than some other crap shmup imports which fetch even higher prices.

Haven't played the SEGA-CD version, but the PC-Engine/TurboGrafx-16 version is JAWUSUM :D, also Lords of Thunder sounds so much better than Winds of Thunder

Read my own comment below the review and I still stand to it right now. I felt it was a lot of fun, and I just dig the whole "shopping and chopping" asthetic as it were. :D
I have watched videos on the Turboduo version, and it does look better so I can't deny that. But I still liked the Sega CD version regardless, as I felt the gameplay fit the bill. However, I liked Dungeon Explorer and The Space Adventure much more when considering Hudson's efforts for the Sega CD, but this is not me detracting what Lords of Thunder has done for me when I say this.
