So earlier I asked about somebody's private project that they mounted a HDD to the Genesis Extension port, now I was wondering is it possible to hook up a HDD to the Sega Saturn? I just got the official Saturn Manual in an auction and it said a HDD was in the works and obviously did not make it.
Does anybody know what the transfer speeds are in the Saturns COMMUNICATION PORT are?
Or would this be as unlikely as a DVD add-on drive for the Dreamcast? :p;)

I have the floppy drive for the Saturn, and as far as I'm aware the idea of the Hard Disk drive was the same, to backup save games and download internet content onto.
Although a few years back there were several hobbyists attempting to run 2.5in hard disks through the Saturn cart port, I never heard hide nore hare about the official drive.
It should also be noted that at least in Europe, that the Model 2 Saturn manuals all omit any reference to a Hard Disk add-on, leading me to believe that development (if there ever was any) was abandoned sometime during '96.
Of course indicating that a hard disk was on it's way could just have been something impressive looking to stick in the manual.
You can add a HDD if you want, but absolutely nothing makes use of it, as nothing was designed to make use of it. Only things that could benefit from a HDD are homebrew things.
