From Gamespot:

First Japanese shipment of new racer to come bundled with a port of 1995's Sega Rally arcade game.

Sega Rally 2006 for the PlayStation 2 will be the first time a new installment in the series has debuted on a console, but it isn't leaving its arcade roots behind. To the contrary, it's bringing them along.

The latest issue of Famitsu reports that when the first shipment of Sega Rally 2006 hits stores in Japan on January 12, it will come packaged with a port of the original Sega Rally arcade game from 1995. The game will be priced at 7,140 yen (about $62), and it will contain both championship and practice modes.

Sega has also announced that it will release the GT Force Pro steering wheel controller in conjunction with Sega Rally 2006. The controller will be manufactured in limited quantities and will carry a hefty price tag of 14,800 yen ($128).

Sweet. I hope this offer makes it to the U.S.

Doubt it. I hope it does though.

Isn't this going to be one player only?

When did this get moved to PS2? I could've sworn I heard about it being a Chihiro game.

Let's hope that this game will be released for the PS2 in the US, because I would buy it ASAP.

I hope this isn't as hard as SR2 was. Everything began fine enough, but once you hit year six...BAM! A sheer wall of impossiblity.

I heard this one really sucked. Bad graphics and NO two player support.

I have Sega Rally 2006 and it is alright. After playing games like Rallisport Challenge, it just can't compete, however. It's not as fun as Sega Rally 1. It's about like Sega Rally 2. The arcade Sega Rally 1 is VEEEEERRRRY much like the Saturn version. In fact you'll probably think you're playing the Saturn version at twice the framerate and looser controls. I guess that just testifies how good they translated the Saturn version from the arcade. I might be able to post videos of that if anyone cares.

I thought I was the only one who didn't like the looser controls of Sega Rally on the Saturn... The arcade version was god, but the console one bites.

You can tweak the controls on the Saturn version. I loved the Saturn version's control. With the arcade version I ping-pong off of the walls.

As much as I want to see this game released in the US, I think by the lack of an official announcement from Sega of America that this game will probably go the way of Project Altered Beast. It is a shame, since I have the soundtrack and it's excellent, but I have read that the game's graphics engine could use some fine-tuning.
