It's not Vista's fault, it's your poorly-programmed Doom launcher. Try another launcher, like prBoom or ZDoom - Google 'em! - as they add stuff like hi-res support, WASD+mouselook support and so on. All you need is to unzip the launcher program somewhere and point it to the doom.wad file.
