Are there any translation patches available for download for any Japanese-language Mega CD games? So that when you burn the game with converted territory, you can translate it too. I've seen translation patches for a few PC Engine CD games (like Ys IV), but never any Mega CD ones.

I've heard of work on some games... but never actually came across complete ones. SegaCD translations are rarer then Saturn translations!

I don't get why as both consoles have a great Jap library never brought to us here in the US or Europe.

I know that Rent-A-Hero was being translated, and Monster World IV was completely done, but I've not heard of any Sega CD games that were done. I think something was in the works for Shadowrun, but don't know what ever came of it.

It shouldn't be much harder than translating a Genesis/Mega Drive game. Games I want to see translated:

Illusion City
Shadow Run
Shin Megumi Tensei*
A-rank Thunder
After Armegeddon Gaiden

* this one should be easier since it appears to a SNES port, and the SNES one is translated.

It shouldn't be much harder than translating a Genesis/Mega Drive game. Games I want to see translated:

Small problem is that the SegaCD with it's use of CD's defines a lot of games through sectors. (one of the big problems that occured in the development of convscd). With English being the space hog it is the fonts alone are going to eat a lot of space up... and the the script for the game is going to grow in size. After that you "may" (depending the game) have to go through and hack apart the sector calls

and well that is tedious

really tedious

I personally don't know all the workings of translating a game, but it is a rather difficult and annoying job to partake in. So there could also be other problems people run into.

I mean crap, Working Designs would take months to translate games and they have a giant crew to do it... there is a LOT to it, most likely not that easy.

Well, WD always wants to fuck with the translation and dub the audio over andwhat not. Maybe fix a few bugs. So that's why.

yeah... DL convscd, create a disc image of the game and then use convscd to patch it to your region.

Go here to DL the program (http://www.retrodev.com/convscd.html)

Personally we'd wish 'em luck with Shadowrun and Rent A Hero - one of the funniest games we've played. :D I guess we'll just have to study more Japanese.... Didn't know a CD version was available though... :?

Be careful when patching some games - because of the PAL/NTSC speed difference, some video and audio may not sync up, unless you have a modded Mega Drive.

e.g. American Night Trap on European Mega-CD = out of sync sound and audio. Solution: Boot up console as usual, switch to 60Hz NTSC mode, insert disc. Hooray.
