View Full Version : So what is there left to talk about?

Just wondering since there's not much 32X stuff out there to talk about in the first place, let alone any new developments other than people making homebrew Neptune systems.
I mean this is what I own:
After Burner
Cosmic Carnage
Doom
Knuckles Chaotix
Kolibri
Metal Head
NBA Jam TE
Shadow Squadron
Space Harrier
Star Wars Arcade
Tempo
Virtua Fighter
Virtua Racing Deluxe
Zaxxon Motherbase 2000
Nothing left to really buy... that's cheap or good. Wouldn't mind Spiderman, but damn it's expensive.
So, really, what is there left to talk about?

well, a few people felt it necessary to discuss the feasibility of Metal Slug on the 32X for about 39 pages, which would never be made and almost certainly could never be made into a homebrew 32X cart while simultaneously shrugging off my more practical ideas like converting Genesis ROMs into a format that would allow them to be dumped onto a CD and played through the Sega CD, you know, something people could benefit from. Based on the existence of the Sega Classics disc on the Sega CD, I am almost certain it would be possible, however, it may not support sound.

Metal Slug is great and all... and it's great to dream. But do you really need Metal Slug on the 32X? I can easily play it on my computer, PSP (I got the complitation when it finally got cheap again).
As for the rest of your post, I'm confused, but I do know what you are getting about about the "burning Genesis roms on to CD and playing on Sega CD" I thought that question died YEARS ago.
I do have to admit, that Genesis gaming and shit is a lot better than it used to be. I remember when Eidlions (sp?) Inn was the shit and it was like the site to go to, and now it's pretty much dead. :(

That thread is golden.

We could talk about Space Harrier. I think it is pretty neat.

I still don't get why that bothered you so much?

I know a guy who's working on a 32x port of the original Sonic the Hedgehog. I think that might be worth talking about when it goes public. :)
That port has few problems on real HW that need to be worked out before public release...
EDIT: Seems the thing has been released... going to try these on my 32X... I hope there's some PWM and 32X "extras" don't go away...

Besides that stuff, I still have some stuff I want to know and games I want to buy such as:
World Series Baseball 95
NBA Jam TE
MK II
RBI Baseball 95
Zaxxon
I just havent asked anyone around here yet.

If you loved, I mean loved the original zaxxon, then the 32X zaxxon will make you want to tear your eyes out with a dull spoon. On the other hand, it's not a terrible game...but calling it zaxxon misled me deeply.
ALSO, Knuckles Chaotix is horrible and cool at the same time. I love the bonus stages, and I like the way the game looks. I SO want to love this game...but it's also so damn annoying. Perhaps with practice, I'll learn to love it...

Yeah, Knuckles' Chaotix is pretty stupid with that whole thing where the computer player holds you back all the time. It wouldnt have been that bad if they just axed that part.

I saw a World Series Baseball 32X at a Trade n Play in Onley, MD... but the store sucked so I didnt buy it.

Maybe someone could work on a port to remove the linked players in Knuckles Chaotix...
That said, you'd have to be pretty bored to want to even attempt that

Even with the training, I found it difficult to figure out how to do jumps and then that stupid thing that takes away 10 rings and lets you go into the negatives? I just could not figure it out and then why did the guy get bigger? Whats that all about? Where are the rings to pick up? AHH!

Here's some Sonic1 32X.... seems the final releases don't work on real HW... they do, but lock up real fast.

Looks the same, no different.

Of course they look the same... porting something to 32x does not automatically make it have full color graphics.
However, what drx is working on is incorporating the ability TO use MARS graphics with the original game. In addition, it already has the ability to use PWM in the same reign as Knuckles' Chaotix.

So the goal with the 32X version is to make an exact duplicate of a game that runs on the Genesis? I could understand if it were a class and the task was to get something that looks like 68000 code that isn't 68000 code or you receive an F, but otherwise I cannot understand the purpose. I get the same onscreen result by simply plugging a Sonic 1 cart into my 32X.

This sounds really awesome if they can get it running on real hardware. Then hackers can change around the code and make more sonic hacks but using 32x code and software rotation things etc. Better colors, man im hyped. Perhaps this will lead to someone doing a 32xcd game that is worth playing for a change and maybe show what the hardware is fully capable of.
So it crashes on real hardware but I assume they are still changing things around to try to get it to run right? Or is it doomed to run on computer only?

I , to my understanding, take the point as being able to make Sonic 1 hacks on the 32x and take advantage of the extra colours and the PWM channel.

It's not hard to understand, really. It gives the ability to upgrade features of Sonic 1. The first thing was to get the game engine converted to use 32x communication/hardware. Afterwards upgraded graphics, effect, or whatever can be incorporated.

I want to give Sonic more color. Can somebody give me a 320x224 pixel perfect screenshot with the "correct" colors instead of the usual "make the colors dark just so the rbgs come in increments of 32 because I am obsessive compulsive with powers of 2 because I'm a tech guy" colors? Why does every Sega Genesis screenshot have to be made so dark?

There is a Caslevania Beta for 32x that had a release date around the time of saturn's release, so you can guess why it got canned. I am not sure where the beta is or what the subtitle was but I know that it is out there and in a playable form.

I don't think it was a beta. More like early concept phase, not even an alpha. J_factor had a like to a site with some decent on it - iirc. A beta would imply quite a bit of the game is functional and story/charactors/levels are fleshed out and in game.
from what i read the port was to help those interested in 32x development as an example in comparison to genesis dev.

I don't have the link handy anymore, but this is correct. The game was very early in development; I don't think they even did any actual coding. Just concepts, art, and maybe some level design.

Some actual ingame design was later rehashed and used in Symphony of the Night instead.
