best : Konami
It is really amazing. all the games I have seen from Konami are well polished and playable. (Probotector, Hyperdunk, Turtles )
Second Best: Codemasters. Less known titles, but polished and original games all around.
Worst would be
?
Sony ImageSoft? BlackPearl? dunno for suree

Are you joking? Castlevania Bloodlines was extremely half-assed. Some backgrounds belong on an 8-bit console for example. TMNT: Hyperstone Heist was good but could have been far better. More levels, better graphics for example. The exact same goes to Sunset Riders.

Black Pearl is the worst. They did Time Killers.

Are we rating games from a company or just the company logo?

My favorites...
Working Designs, Renovation, Seismic(some of my favorite box art) and good 'ol Technosoft
total junk:
Flying Edge
I'd say Acclaim...but I love Darius Gaiden and X-Men COTA which they liscened both of.
Also, what has Codemasters done that's good? I can't think of anything in the US. Maybe in the UK only?

Yeah, but on the Genesis that was a different story.;)

Capcom, Konami, and Technosoft are all quality companies. Ill also throw Treasure in there and Toaplan simply because I love me some old school shmups.
As for worst, I have never experienced anything from Sierra that I thought was any good.

Flying Edge was the worst/cheapest of them all.
Tradewest at least was responsible for the awesome Battletoads.
Acclaim was cool on the NES, but blew big time for the MD/SNES.
My favorites are Technosoft, Telenet JP (Wolfteam), Taito (despite its high and lows), Konami, Toaplan, Capcom and even EA - during the 16-bit era only.

Flying Edge did Arch Rivals, which wasn't a bad game. Acclaim did Maximum Carnage, which I liked. Sony Imagesoft was pretty bad, but they at least published Mickey Mania. FUN FACT: Imagesoft was the division in Sony that became 989 Studios.
My vote for worst goes to Wisdom Tree. I looked and looked for another publisher to name, but every one of them has that one redeeming exception. Even Treco (ugh) did Warsong. Black Pearl didn't do anything good to my knowledge, but they're just a subdivision of THQ, so they don't count. As for best, it seems again that every great publisher has that one stinker. Even Renovation/Telenet/Wolfteam has Earnest Evans to its name. I despise Earnest Evans. I was going to say Core, but then I remembered they did Corporation, which was one of the absolute worst Genesis games. Psygnosis did a lot of good stuff, but they also did Bram Stoker's Dracula, which was dreadful on Genesis (though the SMS version is awesome).

I can forgive a publisher for having a couple of stinkers, as long as they have a ton of good stuff to compensate for it. Look at Sega, they gave us a very choppy version of Sega Touring Car Championships, but I can overlook that because of all the good stuff that made me forget about that horrible game.
Nintendo isn't without it's horrible crap either. I can't stand Pokecrap, and the sooner the fans realize it's nothing more than a collect-a-thon game, the better off the world will be without that franchise.

Here are logos I see on my 250ish PAL collection (and a few genesis games). I list only spine logos.
Order of appearance is order of goodness IMO
Konami (Few but good games, my favorite logo and I love the sound of the logo when you load a cart)
Codemasters (Technically brilliant games, original. Micro Machines 2 and 96 both gems)
Microprose (The Chaos Engine, good PC games help on the perception of the logo)
Interplay (Lost Viking, Rock n Roll Racing)
Renovation (Vapor Trail, DinoLand)
Psygnosis (Wiz n Liz)
Sunsoft (Zero the KamiKaze (one of the best platformer ever on the MD IMO)
Acclaim (Mortal Kombat)
Infogrames (All French Cartoons)
Tengen (Dragon's Fury, Gauntlet IV, overall good but the logo design is cheap and hence my perception of games)
Dysney Interactive
KOEI
Virgin (too many average games)
Namco
EA (Good titles but too many crappy titles)
Ubi Soft (Street Racers)
TimeWarner
US GOLD
Gametek
Technosoft (not really a logo on Thunder Force III )
Core
Viacom (Ahh Real Monsters, Zoop)
Vic Tokai (Colimns 3)
BlackPearl (Time Killers funny stupid game, Olympic Summer Games supports 8 players with 2 multitaps. For me this saves them from top bottom)
Micronet (warrior of rome 2)
Accolade (generally hate it)
Ocean (Since Worms sucks...)
Arena
Domark (only shitty releases)
Parker Brothers
is there a power/influence significance as to why some logos appear on the spine of the art cover and Capcom never appears?

EA (Good titles but too many crappy titles)
You're confusing EA's modern output with its Genesis library, which is terrific with maybe just a handful of duds. From Zany Golf, Populous, and Budokan to Bulls vs. Lakers, Madden, and NHL Hockey to F-22 Interceptor, Road Rash, The Immortal, and Desert Strike, EA's output really rivals Sega as the best Genesis developer. Even its lesser known titles such as Blockout, Battle Squadron, Rings of Power, Fatal Rewind, and Power Monger are good, playable games.

F-22 Interceptor is a choppy mess. The Genesis wasn't designed to do 3-D games.

Not very polished games. Rough on the edges. Dunno why. I'm surely confusing the modern input of EA, and that is the perception of the logo. Screws up going back in time! I have never bought an EA games since the megadrive era. Not even for the PC. I also hate EA megadrive boxes. Some don't close anymore, manuals are too big and lose their pages, plastic clips destroyed. sigh.
It is really a lack of polish. And today when I watch my 250 games, I dont'want to play most EA games. I like Road Rash 2's music though (i wonder why they screwed the music in the 3). Blockout with my bro is cool.
but in my top 10 games (i'm not a RPG fan), maybe one EA games. (Road Rash 2). So EA definetly deserves the middle spot for me. but again I haven't played many EA games yet. So I might change my views
EA games tend to be rather unpolished and there's quite a bit of poor games made by them.
Flying Edge has made some pretty poor games.
Vic Tokai games I have (Trouble Shooter, Socket) are both great.

The thing I don't like about Vic Tokai is that even when they had a good game, and even when it was from a popular, established franchise, they still made it into a flop.

Vic Tokai has alot of so/so titles. And really not alot of great ones for genny except the trouble shooter games. I've never played Socket, thought. I really dig Hagane on super nes, that's a great game they made. Imperium is ok too, but i can't think of much else they really did.

I thought Hagane was Hudson Soft.

You are so right. I just looked at my box. It's got a big yellow bee on the side I don't know why I got confused. That means Vic Tokai is even worse than I thought....
Play some Socket, then Vic Tokai doesn't seem as bad as it does for you now...

Hey, EA made General Chaos and Starflight which are both enough to redeem them, not to mention the awesome strike series (Urban Strike being awesome! I love those Vegas missions!)
Renovation rocks too: Elemental Master = pure awesome
Konami: Damn good...Contra, Castlevania, Zombie's ate my neighbors, Rocket Knight Adventures
Accolade: Pretty cool games...I love Zero Tolerance, and I don't care what you say, this game rocked! I played this game non-stop when it came out and I"ll never forget it...
Tengen and Namco have some pretty rockin stuff too...Burning Force, Gauntlet IV, Rampart, Splatterhouse games
Data East had Atomic Runner and Mega Turrican good stuff...

well other than Sega,
Konami and Capcom are always great
Treasure were legendary
Always liked Virgin Interactive but they did have their bad games
EA were a pretty solid company in the Mega Drive days
Technosoft, not a hell of a lot of games but what they did make were always classics
Psygnosis made some classic games
I can't really think of that many Codemasters games on the MD tbh they were more of a classic C64 and Speccy developer in my eyes, the games I can think of them doing were Micro Machines (classics) Dizzy (pretty good) and SOS (kinda' alright)
As far as worst companies go I can't really think of any, I try to avoid bad games in the first place.

agreed about ea and renovation but aren't we forgetting the sports titles, I mean that is what really made ea in the 90s a powerhouse

Seeing as this is specifically a Mega Drive forum I'm taking back my old post about Capcom.
Capcom were terrible on the Mega Drive and pretty much took the piss, Mega Man the Wily Wars was a massively missed opportunity and Street Fighter II could've been much better. I think that was pretty much all they actually made themselves for the Mega Drive

I dunno, maybe Street Fighter II: SCE could have been better, but it's still my favorite version of the game. I love 10 star turbo.
I will not deny that Capcom didn't even come close to realizing the potential of the Genesis, however.

yep, to this day there is no faster way to play SF II unless you use some kind of speed hack to the emulator. I wish someone was man enough to host a tournament at this speed where campers and spammers would get their asses handed to them (you don't even have time for fireballs half the time, quarter circles take too long, lol).

1) Konami
2) Renovation
3) Treasure
There are plenty of gems on the Genesis by other publishers, but these three managed to make multiple gems for Sega's 16-bit black box...

There's also Saturday Night Slammasters. Not so bad but reputedly better on the SNES.

Best:
Treasure - Gunstar Heroes, McDonalds Treasure Island, they made some really good stuff.
Acclaim - NBA Jam series, Mortal Kombat I and II, everybody has at least one game on Genesis by Acclaim. Their arcade ports were good for the time.
Worst:
Accolade - Bubsy, Hardball series, Barkley Shut up and Jam. Some real crap.
Flying Edge - Virtual Bart, Bart's Nightmare, Bart meets the space mutants.

Combat Cars is awesome, and Acclaim brought the Genesis NBA JAM (even though Midway was the original designer).

I think both you and me should give Bloodlines another chance. I thought the same about the graphics back in 1993 but I have the impression that it stood up pretty good against the tests of time as an excellent game, and the graphics aren't that bad (nor that important).

The only issue I have with the graphics in Bloodlines are the ugly backgrounds in the Germany stage. Otherwise I'd say they're pretty good, no where near "half-assed".

I've been playing a fair bit of Bloodlines lately, and while I agree the graphics aren't terribly impressive, I'd say the faster-paced gameplay (as compared to Castlevania IV, anyway) makes up for it.
So I'll throw another vote in for Konami, since they also have a number of other games I really like.
As for Vic Tokai, the only Genesis game I know them for is Socket (which I hated). But I also heard that they developed DeCap Attack (or at least the game that formed it's foundation). Can anyone confirm this?

Vic Tokai -
Magical Hat no Buttobi Turbo! Daibouken
Decapattack (which is a mucked about version of the preceding)
Socket
Trouble Shooter
Whip Rush

http://gdri.smspower.org/wiki/index.php/Company:VIC_Tokai - they made some nice NES games too, like Clash at Demonhead and Krion Konquest / Magical Doropie.
I think my favorite Mega Drive developer would be Technosoft, followed by Masaya/NCS. Practically all non-Sega games that I care about are made by these companies.
