I don't like Shenume... but the following should be considered _extreme_ sarcasm:
The easiest way to end the story is just create a live action movie and shoot the movie out in Toyko, which will be acted by unknown Japanese actors, with a low budget, and fill it with sailors. I can see the movie getting all very wippy, grippy, slippy and nippy within the first fourty-five minutes.
All of the Shenemue junkies will be happy the story of their sad excuse of a game is completed, but will be disapointed that the movie is shit and low budget. And then they'll realize they've wasted hours on a pathetic excuse of a story and a game.
Then they'll ejauclate all over their posters of Ryo x Yu Suzuki, and be content until the great spanish-mexican war of '86.
Can't win 'em all.
Just make a movie to finsh the series.

I, personally, enjoyed Shenmue, and am thusly kinda bummed about this. I thought an Xbox 360 finale was being worked on, but you cant't always trust the interweb, I guess.
I wonder what made him decide not to?

That doesn't mean anything because there's conflicting messages coming from Suzuki's former team and Suzuki himself. AM2 announced SHENMUE 3 back in 2001 and never retracted that statement officially.Suzuki left AM2 during 2001 to form Digital Rex and has no involvement with the project. Suzuki has been saying there won't be a new Shenmue ever since SHENMUE ONLINE came into existence. I think Sega doesn't want SHENMUE 3 to overshadow the current Shenmue game which is why he's saying what he's saying but the game itself was finished ages ago.

I thought I read somewhere that Shenmue Online has been canned...

It only said Yu Suzuki says he has no plans to make Shenmue III. That doesn't mean AM2 won't make it.

Sega-AM2 was reintegrated back into Sega, because of their merger with Sammy.

Just remembered this. This story from a while ago states that Shenmue 3 is nearly complete, but simply doesn't have a platform. It also states that it is being developed by AM2, with no involvement of Yu Suzuki. Remember, Suzuki-san left AM2 quite some time ago to form Digital Rex. From what I've heard, he also has little to no involvement with Virtua Fighter 5.
If this story is taken to be truth (and Kikizo is pretty reliable), it is consistent with Yu Suzuki's recent comment; he is not making Shenmue 3. But it is being made.
I'd prefer then, that it not be made. What's with all the great creators backing off now, when creativity is at an all-time low? Miyamoto no longer designs, and now Suzuki too.
Peh. :shame:

Eh, as long as the story is untouched and the gameplay is reasonably intact, I have no qualms with Yu's uninvolvement.
