You have to buy the new Super Nintendo Video system to play the new Mario 4 Cassette, apperently.

Did they seek out the most stupid people in the store to interview? "My son has a GameBoy and a Nintendo and now he wants a whole new system... doesn't seem right!" Welcome to life, lady. I bet she complains similarly about Blu-ray existing when DVD is already out, too. But did you see the Sega Master System games on the shelves? ROCK ON! Missile Defense 3D!
Ah, the good ol' days of "Nintendo game tapes".

YEA DAMN CORPORATE CAPITALISTS!!!! Why is it that you think that big bad corporate men are trying to MAKE you pay for movies YOU already own. Its not them trying to take money out your piggy bank, its for people like me who want a high definition, perfect sound, extra features, and all around better movie watching experience. HD-DVD can blow me, Bluray had the better all around package and guess what? HD-DVD was made by *gasp* CORPORATIONS?! No, they wont try to release a new format two years from now, that would be fucking retarded, like your idea.

Blu-ray is selling very well. People like stuff in HD, so a high definition format (which DVD cannot provide is absolutely necessary. You only hate it because you don't have a job and are too poor to afford it. Are you homeless or something? You sure act like it. Trust me, all of your whining won't make Blu-ray go away. It's here for good and you won't need it until you get an HDTV.
The MPEG2 video compression used for DVDs is crap. Compare:
http://www.joeredifer.com/crap/rooster.jpg
Just look at all of that noise and gibberish in the DVD version. Seriously, DVD was developed specifically for homeless people.

I was thinking your long post was being sarcastic, Sega-Fan. Do you honestly believe that DVD is here to stay and that Blu-Ray is a soon to be dead format?
Comparing Blu-Ray to Betamax is just crazy. Betamax lost out to the less expensive technology, even though it was the superior format.
The advantages of Blu-Ray go beyond that of screen resolution. The Blu-Ray (and the dead HD-DVD) format offers better color depth, sound and totally elimimates the tiling effect that is present on DVD. It's almost as painful to watch a DVD, as it was to watch a VHS tape, after seeing movies on HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. I've owned an HD television going on 3 years, and it was painfully obvious that DVD wasn't going to cut it.

I'm not tired or cranky, I just don't react well to such ignorance. It almost seems like you are just repeating daddy's beliefs on the subject instead of having formulated your own opinion by your very self. Your age is definitely a factor. Also keep in mind that the more you complain about the format, the more of a fool you'll look like in the future when you actually pick it up. Remember, lots of people complained the same exact way about DVD when it came out.
Look, there's no rush to buy it NOW. DVD is not going away tomorrow. All Blu-ray players also play and upscale DVDs. Stop freakin' out. As the generation right above yours likes to say... "don't hate!".

Back on topic, I would like to see people whining like this about the current generation when it came out. But then again, I'm sure there were people who did.

TmEE is correct. Buy new movies on BD and keep your old ones on DVD. If you have an absolute favorite, then it might be worth upgrading to the BD version in time (like I did with Nightmare Before Christmas and Kill Bill). A lot of people are waiting until prices come down, and they will.

I love how they make it out like its a scam. For fucks sake, the NES had like 700+ licensed games and well over 800 total, if you don't want to buy a new system, just buy up NES games used or liquidated for pennies on the dollar. Shit, 95% of the reason I retro collect is because there is nothing in the current generation worth my money yet.

Well the thing is the Video game industry was in a slouch when the NES came out. Sure it came out in what 1985 or 1986 but no one cared. It wasn't hype this, internet that when it was coming out. So most people I know including myself got the NES in 1989 and to the parents it would seem like only 2 years until they had to buy the next one! Not like that these days with the media and everything but most parents back then bought an NES in 1989 thinking it was the newest thing on the market, not realizing it was already 3 to 4 years old!
But the fact they keep calling them Cassettes is a giggle!

Hey, games used to come on cassette...my dad had dozens of computer games on cassette...he used to bootleg them for his friends too...
Also, people being surprised about needing to buy new hardware isn't all that surprising given the era.
Nobody bought either the 5200 or 7800 so no one ever heard of a system being upgraded :D
Here is a good example, many of the computer games my dad had were very similar to these (i've never heard of these, this site is the result of a quick search).

Oh, hypocrisy at large. When politicans don't want kids and teenagers to go out on murder rampages after playing Grand Theft Auto (4)... that's why it has a big, red '18+' BBFC Age Rating on the box, guys. Go figure!
There's also one Christmas where I saw this 11-year-old kid in GAME explaining to his mother that GTA3 and GTA: Vice City weren't as 'Bad' (explicit) as GTA:San Andreas (he wanted that XBox double box-set). I would've went and told her to get that brat a bicycle.

That's true, I think alot of it had to do with people comparing it to a VCR or hell even the 2600. Plus, most people didn't have PCs unless they had a job that required one, so they didn't understand the ~5 year lifespan before total obsolescence. I got my NES in 1990 and thought I was late to the party, I guess I was doin OK after all :) . Too bad I didn't get my SNES till fuckin 94, thanks mom and dad :( .
Nobody remembers when stores called the "game tapes"? Usually it was video rental stores who were the most guilty of this.
I've found quite a few NES games with Blockbuster stickers that say "be kind, rewind." Yeah...let me get right on rewinding ROM chips on a silicon PCB...I'll let you know how it turns out.
Do you pay people using silver and gold coins?
if the situation calls for it.
Seriously though, are you referring to old school coin collecting games (SMB for instance) or saying I'm so old fashion I haven't heard of that new fangled paper money? Either way, yes, I keep it ballin with my gold coins thank you.

I don't think I've ever seen cartridges officially called cassettes. Some games actually did come on cassettes, though. The Atari 2600 had a cassette reader called the Supercharger, and there were cassette games for Commodore 64 and other computers.
