Spore looked like a really awesome game (although I have a weakness for anything that could be consitiuted as cute or cuddly and the civilizations in Spore certainly seemed that) but that's an amazing number of 1 star reviews. I think I'll just buy a copy of Black & White on the cheap and see what that's about instead.

This is what companies get when they treat paying customers as criminals.
I think back to other Maxis games and I get the feeling "Spore" was dumbed down at the insistence of EA.

Yeah, Spore definitely fell short in every single aspect of each 5 of the stages of the game...
well, the last stage (heading out into the universe) is quite fun, actually, but first you have to drag yourself through the first 4, and those really are simplistic at best and tedious at worst.

I can see why you'd need to get 'reinstallation credits' back if you're selling the game on, but for arguments' sake - why do you need to be able to install a game more than once?

Of the games that I own.
I'll play them for awhile (at least 6 months) then when I get tired of it I'll uninstall it. Maybe a year or two passes and then I'll want to play it again and install it. I've installed/reinstalled "Age of Empires 2" at least half a dozen times since I got it close to 10 years ago.
But the issue isn't really "how many times does one install a game?" the question is "why does there need to be a limit to how many times you can install it?"
Why would I want to spend $50 for a game with excessive copy protection when I could spend 10 minutes clicks on the internet and get a pirated, but DRM-less, copy for free? I'm one to believe that DRM and its ilk do nothing but cause *MORE* people to pirate than it stops.

Fair enough. But are you that hard-pressed for space on your hard drive you can't keep a nine-year-old game around?

no, wait a sec, I-

Don't fling 'THIS IS WHY I PIRATE GAMES' talking points at me!

EA is a conspiracy between Satan, Al Qaeda, and the damned soul of Joseph Stalin.
Seriously, they're that evil. I really hate them for buying up Maxis, one of the best PC game developers of my childhood and raping them.
EDIT: Is anyone else's worst nightmare EA going into the hardware business and developing a console? That would be the end of gaming right there.

If they had made Madden an exclusive title on it, we'd probably still be playing the 3D0.

I run Linux, all the game I play are free anyway. :p
I have no problem paying for games or music, I just don't like paying for something only to be treated like some criminal. Which is why I don't buy games or music that include any DRM shit.
