Stolen from IMDB.com:
Plot Summary for
Silent Hill (2006)
Rose cannot accept the knowledge that her daughter Sharon is dying of a fatal disease. Over the protests of her husband, she flees with her child, intending to take the girl to a faith healer. On the way, she ends up driving through a portal in reality, which takes her to the eerie and deserted town of Silent Hill. Sharon disappears in Silent Hill, and Rose follows what she thinks is her daughter's silhouette all over town. It's soon clear the town is not like any place she's ever been. It's inhabited by a variety of creatures and a living darkness that descends and literally transforms everything it touches. The human inhabitants - the ones who are left - are trapped and fighting a losing battle against the Darkness. Joined by a cop named Cybil, who has been sent to bring her and Sharon back, Rose searches for her little girl while learning the history of Silent Hill and that Sharon is just a pawn in a larger game. To save her daughter, Rose makes a deal with a demon in the form of a little girl.....

Credited cast:
Radha Mitchell .... Rose
Laurie Holden .... Cybil Bennet
Sean Bean .... Christopher
Deborah Kara Unger .... Dahlia Gillespie

Combining elements from the first and second games
Nice. . .
But I might have rather gone for an all new story penned by Yamaoka.

It's looking better than most videogame movies. I hope everything turns out well.

It actually looks like a movie to be taken seriously.. as we all know this is a refreshing change from the video game to movie norm. It's being directed by a dude named Christophe Gans, director of cool beans like Brotherhood of the Wolf and the live-action adaptation of Crying Freeman. Thanks for posting those shots, Dartagnan.

Dude this movie BETTER be good.

I tend to hate videogame movies... I also tend to hate survival horror games. BUT this game is my favorite fucking game (and the ONLY reason I had purchased a PSX) so if they fuck this up I am going to be pissed.

Oh yeah...

PYRAMID HEAD IS IN IT!!!!!!!!

The problem is that video games movies have always attracted people who feel they can make a better story than the video game. It seems Silent Hill is embracing the story of the game and hopefully tweaked it a bit. HOTD and Doom would have made great movies if the people behind the production had spine to do the film using the games actual premise and story.

Christopher Gans is also a good director who makes decent films. I hated Crying freeman because it was too different to the Manga but Brotherhood Of the wolf was excellent. Now if John Woo can make a decent metroid and Spy hunter film and the Peter Jackson produced Halo knocks a homerun it should be an great period for video game based films

WTF? I thought it followed Crying Freeman Part 1 almost to the letter...

It may have followed the core part of the story but they did change things around and added characters that weren't present in the original version.
I also forgot to mention Dead or Alive film coming out this year.
