A legend returns...well, sort of. Pitfall Harry has been kidnapped, and it's up to his son to save him. Activision brought the franchise back in a big way when they released Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure for all a multitude of systems. We've got a review (http://www.sega-16.com/2005/11/pitfall-the-mayan-adventure-3/) of the Genesis version for you, so pull up a chair and check it out!

I think it's in the top 5 for how many systems one game is on.

Well, that was quick. However, you misspelled my name :)

Glad to hear.

That means writing it was worthwhile :)

Ok, this thread is as old as it gets, but I thought perhaps I'd revive it:

Quoting myself: Considering it was released after Disney's The Jungle Book (for Genesis/MD), one would assume it was a complete rip-off. It's like replacing Mowgli with, as mentioned by the reviewer, an Indiana Jones Look-Alike and stamping it with a Pitfall Title. However, I guess this is why reviews are beneficial--no matter how many times I've researched this game, I never knew it was originally intended for the NES.

Did anyone catch the same "Jungle Book" vibe when playing this game?

Are there any significant differences in the versions?

I never could get the hang of this whenever I played it on Genesis at a friend's house. However, when I picked up a SNES version recently, I really loved it!

Well, beyond the Indiana Jones look-alike sprite to replace Mowgli, the obvious platforming structure has to be different, if at least slighltly. Allow me to rephrase my previous comment, then: If you replace the Indiana Jones Look-Alike from pitfall with Mowgli, who knows, you might just bump into Shere Khan in that Jungle if you're not careful enough... Although I wouldn't be so sure Baloo will be there to save you.

I think the 32X and Sega CD versions had more levels or something, but I'm not sure.

I read the same thing on the review. I have to try and beat the genesis version first before I check out those other two.

P.S.> I'm not complaining about it, though. Just pointing out the obvious. I actually like the game (Pitfall, of course... because when it comes to the Jungle Book, I just LOVE IT!)

It's a solid game. The Sega CD version adds a nice atmospheric soundtrack... It's worth tracking down if u already like the Genesis version.

Of course just the inclusion of the original Atari Pitfall justifies owning at least one version of the game, even if ur not crazy about the 16-bit game itself, there's the novelty of owning the original Pitfall for ur Genesis.

This game hooked me to emu-gaming since the day I rented it (I can't consider myself a retro gamer because I can't afford to start a retro collection). I think it was January the 5th, 1995. I made that nifty down, 26 times A, down cheat to play the original David Crane's "Pitfall!". A fan of emu-gaming was born.

The game itself was great as well. I loved Harry Jr's movements when he hanged on the bouncing vines.

A far better sequel than that horrible version made for the PS1.

Great game. I enjoyed the extra feature that allowed the original Pitfall to be played as well.
