View Full Version : Double Dragon II: The Revenge
I've been watching this one, thinking about getting it. I would prefer the incredible PC-Engine CD version, but the MD one catches my eye as well. The thing is, I've heard conflicting reports about it, and some people say it sucks badly.
I've played it on Gens and it seemed a bit hard, but nothing that wasn't worth having. I enjoyed the original on Genesis, even though it played at 100MPH.
Opinions?

I'm personally not all too fond of the Double Dragons for the Genesis.. I'd rather play II on NES meself. I'd probably still buy I through III on Genesis if I came across them cheap just for the sake of owning them, but as you surely know Genesis Double Dragon II won't fill that place in your heart that PC-Engine CD Double Dragon II surely will. The PC-Engine CD ports of Technos finery are rather the godly games, they are they are..
I'd give a reluctant yes to the idea of buying ol' Genesis Double Dragon II. That version is a bit bungled in my opinion, but why the hell not.

It beats the crap out of that awful NES port, but I'd probably recommend the PCE version over it. The one thing the MD version has going for it is the 3-button controls.

Awful NES port? Arg.. I have to disagree with you, j_factor.. I find the NES version to be superior to the Genesis equivalent. NES Double Dragon II most notably doesn't suffer from the questionable hit detection of the Genesis edition. The 3-button control for Genesis DDII does make for easier jumping, certainly, but the A+B jumping in NES DDII really isn't as awkward as it might seem.. it's not a platformer, after all.
Anyways.. maybe I'm just biased because I played Double Dragon II to death on the NES, but the sloppy combat of Genesis Double Dragon II just isn't as fun.
I'd buy it if I found it reasonably cheap, though.
DD II for the NES is awesome! I love it! I'd also love to play the PC-Engine version, but it costs a pretty penny. Then again, the MD one isn't exactly cheap.

I don't regard it as terrible, I just think it's a messy take on the Double Dragon formula. It could play a lot better.. but it's still Double Dragon, and as such it redeems itself partially I suppose.
