Hey, there was an offical Mark 3 adaptor for the Genesis called the "Mega Adaptor" it was released by Sega in Japan, and the only difference is, that it was for Japanese carts and cards instead of US/EU carts.

And yes you can make your own Zero Tollerence Link cable, I posted a schematic here before, but I think it's a broken image now. I'll try and find it again.
