That player is GOOD.
Embedded video get!
Tool assisted, but cool.

One of the more underrated early games. I always liked it. Could use a bit more bass, perhaps. And maybe a rap during the credits by Fiddy Cent.

I like that this game had both the US and Japanese version in the same cart (like most early games).
Even if we weren't told a tool was used, its damn obvious that one was used. I've beat the game, it's not *that* easy.

EGM lauded it as one of the best-looking first-gen Genesis games in their review of it (or rather, the small blurb in their review archive in the 1999 Video Game Buyer's Guide). I'd say it's probably the best looking first-gen game, sure.

Mystic Defender stood out to me as an original game and not just another arcade port. I was also glad that it was an action platformer. It gave me hope early on for the Genesis as a console and not just an stripped down arcade machine.

Tool-assisted but yeah, it's a good run of a good early game (anime style explosions and nudity). It's a shame they ditched the rpg/adv elements of the prequel though.

No it isn't. The prequel barely even holds my interest.

I like Spellcaster for Sega Master System.

The genre mixing was a great idea, and the execution could've been great in this sequel.

Mystic Defender is really underrated.. I love the dark atmosphere of the game.
Killing those dead babies on the 2nd stage is really strange though. Oh and from what I remember I think in the Japanese version they have skin tone and bleed instead of being green slime ball things. This game proves the in the early 90's the Japanese could get away with putting anything in their games, including nudity (last boss and on the back cover of the MD game case).

Has anyone here seen the Peacock King OVAs on VHS that Spellcaster and Mystic Defender are based on?

Those green heads and "babies" are flesh colored.
His outfit is some white robe thingie and there are titles to each stage.
All of this can be had if you play the US version of "Mystic Defender" in a Japanese MD or switch your system region to JP.

Or you can try playing the Japanese MD cartridge on your US system or region switch to US and the only thing that is altered is the text, it's in English. The main character still has the robe and the stage intros are present.
