From Gamespot:

In stock buyout, Red Entertainment goes independent; will maintain some ties to now former publisher Sega.

Japanese game studio Red Entertainment announced that it has severed most of its ties with Sega, previously the publisher of its titles--including the Sakura Taisen series.

The studio executed a "management buyout" on November 30, reacquiring 2,700 shares of its own stock from Sega. That figure accounts for 59.2 percent of the 4,558 shares outstanding of Red Entertainment.

Red execs say that going independent is mandatory in order to "raise its corporate value and expand its business." The game studio hopes to branch out into online games as well as mobile titles. It will continue to manage its merchandising arm and says it will maintain a "strong relationship" with Sega.

We never got a Sakura Taisen game here, so I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Whatever Red wants to do, ehh.. I guess that's cool. These dudes had a hand in Bonk and Devil's Crush, after all.

They also had a hand in Tempo, which, fuck you guys, is a damn good game.

And they made the two Gungrave games, which are pretty cool.

Well they're still hoping that Sega may publish a few of their non SAKURA TAISEN games. it's a win win situation for Red because they can create a game on a cheap development platform and get a publisher to distrubute and carry the costs of that.
