Hi all,

It seems that I always gravitate towards the underdog and this topic is about one of the most fantastic fantasy RPGs underdogs ever created.

The first time I experienced M&M was when I was working in a toy store and they had some cheap PC games on the computer rack, so one day I picked out M&M 7 and brought it home cracked it open and installed it on my PC. What I found was a First-Person / Group based RPG through a fantasy world called Erathia.

It had all the hallmarks of an RPG but was completely different in the way it moved. You could toggle in and out of turn-based combat, you could walk around 3D rendered environments at will, Travel to places all over the map, Pick and choose your quests ,promotions, friends and enemies. It was freedom in a CD-Rom!

Today you could compare it to a non-online MMO. Obviously you would be the only person in the world but it has that MMO feel to it.

Here is the full series. The Genesis actually had 2 titles on it.

Might and Magic: The Secret of the Inner Sanctum (1986; Apple II, Mac, DOS, Commodore 64, NES, MSX,PC-Engine CD-ROM)

Might and Magic II: Gates to Another World (1988; Apple II, Amiga, DOS, Commodore 64, Mac, Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo Entertainment System (Europe only), SNES (Japan-only, different from the European version), MSX, PC-Engine CD)

Might and Magic III: Isles of Terra (1991; DOS, Mac, Amiga, SNES, Sega Genesis, PC-Engine CD-ROM)

Might and Magic IV: Clouds of Xeen (1992; DOS, Mac)

Might and Magic V: Darkside of Xeen (1993; DOS, Mac)

Might and Magic: World of Xeen (1995; DOS)

Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven (1998; Windows)

Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor (1999; Windows)

Might and Magic VIII: Day of the Destroyer (2000; Windows)

Might and Magic IX (2002; Windows; known as: Writ of Fate)

There was no Genesis version of Might & Magic III. There was a Mega CD version, but only in Japan. Also, I don't believe Might & Magic II had a PC Engine CD release.

Part three was released on the domestic Turbo CD, right? It didn't get a Japanese release?

There was no Genesis release though. I really wish someone would patch the Mega CD version. I'd love to play through it.

This info is from wikipedia so I dont know if its too reliable other than to name the titles of the series.

What do you guys think of my comparison to early MMO like gaming without internet connection:?::?::?:

Good luck; it's rather difficult to obtain.

I downloaded the ROM for the Genesis version of part three, and it boots up fine. It won't let me start though, because I get a "could not initialize battery RAM" message. Is there actually a game behind this, or is this as far is it goes?

I get the same message. I haven't figured it out yet.
