The topic says it all:
Is it possible to get FM sound on an NTSC-U Master System through modding?? I've never done any modding before in my life, but if getting FM sound onto an American Master System is possible and somebody knows how to do it, I would gladly pay to have it done, as long as they take good care of my baby, and do a nice, clean, professional job. So, is it possible??

I think someone sells an adaptor on SMSpower.... I think.

They do indeed. It plugs into the connector on the bottom of the system, but I think you still have to solder one or two wires to the motherboard. Also, not every FM-supported game works with it.

As a matter of fact, I remember seeing something like this a couple months ago...a gender adaptor or something like that. Is there a different way? Maybe actually soldering something onto the motherboard? I guess I COULD do it if it wasn't too difficult. I have extremely basic soldering skills. I had an electronics class in high school and we would just solder stuff all day, lol.

The "gender adapter" is exactly what it sounds like. It makes the port on the bottom of an SMS female instead of male, so that you can plug carts into it. The idea for this device was so that owners of a Japanese SMS (which has FM sound built in) can use US and EU cartridges to play the FM sound that was hidden away in the games. The gender adapter won't do anything for owners of a US system.

But there ARE other ways of getting FM sound from a US system, right? Or do I have to get a Japanese SMS?

Best off getting a Japanese SMS and a gender adapter (since US carts won't fit into the cart slot). Japanese SMS's are expensive, though.

Why's that?

Something about the way the code for the particular games is written. The FM stuff is supposed to be in a certain place, and the few games where it isn't do not work with the add-on for the US SMS and the maker said there really isn't any way to fix it.
