My friend is going to Japan and will visit the super potato store in Akihabara for me (great retro store) and is going to try to find some japanese titles for me there.

I was wondering if you could help me list games that wasnt released in the west. Im mainly looking for shoot em ups, puzzle and plattformers.

Basically anything that can be played with little japanese knowledge.

Sank u!

There's quite a number of Japanese-only releases, but a few that I think are worth your time would be..

For shooters:
-Battlemania 2
-Eliminate Down
-Gley Lancer

For platformers:
-Doraemon (it's whimsical.. but fairly enjoyable)
-Monster World IV

For puzzlers/misc.:
-Megapanel
-Puyo Puyo 2
-Rainbow Islands Extra
-Shi Kin Jo
-Snow Bros. (good luck finding a copy)

Magical Flying Hat Turbo Adventure. Seriously, it's a sequel to Psycho Fox on the Master System - one of the best games for the system. It was sadly bastardised into DeCap Attack, a vastly inferior Westernisation. Its kanji title is apparently 'Majikaru Hatto no Buttobi Taabou! Daibouken'.

Best box ever! =D

Comedy option: Junkers High.

I hear you. The graphics feel much cleaner and the music sounds a lot better.

Does it play any differently than Decap Attack?

Most yankees assume it is when something isn't released in NA.

Its on my must own list. However its also released in Europe. Ill try to grab it of tradera.se later. When it shows up it usually ends at half the price compared to ebay.

Alien soldier isnt that good, overhypt and rare maybe but still not that great,Its a typical rush game,You rush trough levels fight bosses only and then youre at the end of the game, and get a freaking dead and boring end.The game is filled with animations and nice graphics,But i dont really putted attention to the graphics in the game the levels where oke, there could have been more and less of the same looking.None of the graphics amazed me exept for the fire bird animation, and the butterfly.after all the graphics are just the same as any other game on genesis.every time i finish it i rate it lower becuase its so unfinished, and i mean graphically and the game overall,by its time genesis could do better.the music is oke.i give it a 7 or 7,5.

except for the shooters already listed you should definitely buy/check out Panorama cotton (very technically impressive and fun rail-shooter, if you're into space harrier or star fox at all, you'll love it) and Twinkle tale (sort of like pocky & rocky for the snes but only 1p) These games are among the best on the megadrive!

Yeah alien soldier is a cool boss-fest, but way too expensive for what you get.

Yup the end is to dead,a weaker one in the treaure collection a treasure measure, decent game if you see it cheap then buy it,but not for the full price.Twinkle star is indeed good,Panorama cotton is very good i have that game,Graphically amazing if you finish the game you can play as silk, the sidekick of cotton,Bit to short if you ask me.Yu Yu hakusho is fine to 4 play way hey master.the game has some nice visuals,And some rpg,s that werent converted,Yu Yu hakusho 2 etc. ;)

It's probably a bit late in the day, but we'd plump for Panorama Cotton. Still it depends on how many games you want: you could probably get about five lesser known titles for that sort of money, but equally playable (just with higher print runs.) But I doubt anyone will be selling Alien Soldier on the cheap. Low print run plus Treasure = quids in! All the games mentioned in this thread are solid... If you want a breakdown of their stories/our mini reviews please check out our Mega Drive section. There are cheaper (but not as easy to find) shops than Super Potato... :?

Radiant Silvergun had a print run of 50,000 copies or so, but it was "sold out" upon release.

Joe Redifer
01-18-2006, 06:56 PM
I bought Radiant Silvergun brand new when it came out for like $60. Same with Dracula X for the PC Engine. And Panzer Dragoon Saga for the Saturn (except it was $40 or so and it was the US version).

GenkiVideoGames.com
01-19-2006, 05:52 AM
You are a true visionary to get those on release. It is strange how print runs work, but I guess the games company doesn't really benefit from low print runs. Unless the President drip feeds them onto the second hand market whilst laughing his b*llocks off! Was the print run of the USA version of Panzer Dragoon as low as the Euro one?

David J.

I don't think so, but I've never seen a copy. I think it's uncommon and a little bit expensive due to demand.

A friend lent us his UK copy and by the time we got round to returning it, he'd sold his Saturn. It always seems to come up after a few beers that we have his £100 ($170) mint copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga. I guess he'll never forget even though we seem to pay him off in intrest a game a month! :D Still it was a very nice package with cards and all. Did those cards make the US version?

Joe Redifer
01-19-2006, 07:43 PM
I don't think it came with any cards. It came in a standard GIGANTOR plastic Saturn case with 3 of the discs in paper sleeves. The manual was also standard fair. This was right when Sega of America was about to call it quits on the Saturn. The UK always hangs onto Sega a bit longer than their American subsidiaries. Lucky UK.

I saw BattleMania 2 on a site that price it at about 74 GBP.
Much cheaper than other prices I've seen

GenkiVideoGames.com
01-20-2006, 05:13 AM
That sounds a reasonable price. We've only got Battle Mania in at present, but that seems to have increased in value along with the sequel. Still we loved playing it even if we were of the opinion "you might wonder if Shiitake are the only mushrooms the developers have been having in their Miso soup." I think we just have trouble modernising in general in the UK, but luckily this can sometimes have its plus side like the tasty release of Panzer Dragoon. We have shots of it on the site if you are interested in comparing the two, but I'm sure my mate would never forgive us if we sold it! :)

i know how its named, cressembles or somethin and high head, that sort of drum stuff, the genesis lacks,a few games use cressemble and high head slighly,or just very thin like in skitching, countrepart on the snes, snes does it almost all the time.but gennesis saves the guitar for it,like a dual z80 build in the console or something for fuller guitar samples would have been awesome the wed get somthing like metal slug 5 uit of a genesis and then i would swear like when a game like SOR 4 apeared back then wed still have or neckhaires stiffed while listening to it,still some older games do,cause some music is so unecspected cool,Dynamite headdy has great sound to.

It is pretty bad, but since it is pretty rare and since the series is highly regarded it is pricey. Then again... I have never liked a Double Dragon game.

to get the you had to buy 2 Ballistic/Accolade games and cut out the upc thing and mail them in with a $4.95 check or money order for shipping i think they sold it this way cuz it was never licensed by Sega.

David J.
05-19-2006, 03:06 PM
A lot of Accolade's games where not licensed. I doubt Turrican was, and I know lots of EA's early games where not licensed and they had retail releases.

It might have been a mail order order release, but I swore I saw it in retail when the Genesis was alive.

Dragon Ball Z Buu Yuu Retsuden (under European name Dragon Ball Z L'appel du destin) for Mega Drive, along with many other Dragon Ball games for Super Nintendo, Sega Saturn or PlayStation, was released in those european countries where the TV show was emitted in the early 90's, mainly France, Spain and Portugal.

I got Dragon Ball Z: L'appel Du Destin from Portugal today, the box just says Dragon Ball Z, but the cart says Dragon Ball Z: L'appel Du Destin and has the same artwork as the french version. The boxart on the cover on the other hand, is different in the Portugal version.
