The first review of the new year! Sega-16 starts 2006 six with a batarang, with a review of the first of the Dark Knight's adventures on the Genesis. Batman: The Video Game came out in the shadow of the awesome NES release, but was it better? You'll have to read our review (http://www.sega-16.com/Batman%20The%20Video%20Game%20review.htm) to find out!

From what I've played, this game is great. :)

I always hated the fact that Sunsoft put pics of the NES version on the back of the box. WTF Sunsoft? They probably turned away alot of potential buyers. Besides that little mistake, I still think this is a great game (the NES version is a little better). Heck, I liked this game so much that I recorded the whole soundtrack on Minidisc (back in my youth), and to this day still listen to it.

The main levels put me off too much, felt like a bad combination of platforming and street brawling.

It's true that most of the bosses are lame, and some early levels are very dull, but I really like the shooter levels (even after playing classics like TF4, Gaiares and Gleylancer), and some of the platform action is pretty good (like the tower) although it gets frustrating at times due to the stiff controls. What makes me come back to the game, however, is the fantastic music. Except for the boss music that can a bit repetitive, there's not a single track I don't love.
7/10

I remember this game. I was a young boy saving his hard earned money to buy his first genny game (got tired of altered beast) I had it for over a year and then a boddy from school wanted to use the game. So I let him use it for a stupid game I cant remember the name(a game where you have a crystal as it changes depending on the color item you recieve). Well the next week I ask for it back and tells me fine I will bring it and guess what the kid never shows up again, he moved to another school out of the district. Oh well, it was a fun game that stop my cravings since I was a batman fan (expecially the first movie).

Ah yes, game trading debacles. I had a pissed off mob of kids chasing after me once when one of those went down badly -- almost got knifed over a copy of Double Dribble. I don't know if that's a good memory or not. I still miss my forever lost copy of Galaga. :(

I never have played the Genny's Batman, but I loved the NES gamel still think that's a gem. The Geneisis version has always looked stiff control-wise, just from the screen shots. At the same time, the shooter levels look damn cool.

Price range: 10 bucks maximum?

I just re-purchased the Japanese Mega Drive version of Batman for about 10 or 12 bucks or so. I bought it with Gaiares originally when it came out in Japan and stupidly sold it after a few years. It is a good game, but it does show its age when you play it. The music is fantastic, though. And I am glad to have back my original Japanese Gaiares. Oh man the box art is soooo much better than the US orange nastiness. :)

The music on this game is great. I do not have this game, but I have heard the music for this game. I might get the game and see how good or bad it is for myself.

It was kinda cool how Sega got Batman and Spiderman to cameo in Revenge', and have their own games available at that same period of the genesis's first two years.

Later copies don't have that, unfortunately.

I am still looking for a copy that does have those two (all copies have Spiderman). Godzilla is also missing from later copies. I used to have it but sold it when I got a Sega CD and Revenge of Shinobi came on the 4-in-1 disc.

I hate being retarded. :/

You can't tell the difference just by looking at the box and/or cartridge. The exception is the Sega Classics version... that one always has the good stuff removed.

So how can you tell, short of playing through it?

I have the early version myself... I guess I just got lucky when I got it, as I wasn't specifically seeking it out.

Turning it on and looking for the Marvel copyright screen before the title screen. If it's there, you get the assf*cked version.
