Very interesting. And I had already thought that Death Adder's death in the arcade version was over-the-top for 1989 too (they toned it down in the Genesis port).

I'm surprised they had a decapitation on a Japanese arcade machine. Usually exteme violence in videogames isn't that populur there.

Not just Golden Axe, I seen quite a few Japanese arcade games with huge amounts of gore like Splatterhouse, Wild Fang (Tecmo Knight), Night Slashers (Japanese version)
