First, just saying hi. This is really my first topic on this forum. Hello to you all. :)

I've always wanted a Megadrive. Always. It hasn't been on my mind a lot, but it's always been deep in the back there, probing away, occasionally lurking. Ever since I played Sonic and Knuckles at my friends house way back when I was about 10 years old, I was totally enthralled (that game is still my favourite)

However, I have always stopped myself half way through buying. I would pick myself up and go 'No, you shouldn't do that, don't buy it, you'll regret it'. A part of me is very paranoid, paranoid that I'll do something wrong or mess something up so that part of me has always made me be conservative when it comes to dishing out and buying it.

However, I made it a new years resolution to buy one, so I had to take the plunge. I looked on eBay- Well, to be more accurate, I SIGNED UP for eBay and Paypal- just to look for one, to look for a Sega Megadrive. Nowhere near me is there a store that sells retro games, apart from one place I know but they tend to be pricy.

Anyway, to cut a long story a little shorter, with the help of a very learned friend who knows a lot about eBay, I've FINALLY managed to get a Sega Megadrive. Yes, it's taken me ten years but I've done it. Paypal says that I've paid the person responsible and now I simply have to wait for him to send it. I'll probably have to collect the thing at the post office at some unearthly time of the morning, but I won't care; it'll be mine, all mine. Heh, it makes me feel a little giddy that I am buying it.

Anyway, here's the part where you can all shell in your opinions. This system is going to come with four games:

-Sonic the Hedgehog (It's Sonic's first outing; what's not to like?)
-Pga Tour Golf 2 (The joker in the pack. I hate sport games :P)
-Alien Storm (Love this one, I don't know why but I do)
-Mega Games 2 Cartridge (Golden Axe, Streets of Rage and Revenge of the Shinobi in one cartridge? Heaven! :D)

Anyway... *gets to the bit you've all been waiting for*

What games do YOU think I should buy? I know I will hunt down copies of Splatterhouse 2 and Sonic and Knuckles, I have to get them if it's the last thing I do... But what OTHER games do you think I should get?

*now hides from deluge of recommendations* :P

There are sooooooo many G/MD games to recommend, it's ridiculous.

So.. here's a ton of recommendations. I'm going to recommend some of the less obvious, less commonly talked about games, because these threads are always a fest of Sonic, Streets of Rage, and the same usual recommendations, that, while great games, I'm sick of them having all the attention.

Platformers:

Nice list. I am already a fan of some of those games. The Chaos Engine I had for the Amiga and I loved dearly, I'll be trying to track down a copy of THAT alright. I have already played Shadowrun as well when I was younger, I enjoyed that as well. :)

That list is a bit hit & miss, but most of it is pretty good. These games I'd try before I bought them though:
Bubba n' Stix
Chuck Rock
Dashin' Desperadoes
Sorcerian
Caliber .50
Outlanders (half the game is crap)
Beavis & Butt-head (seriously!) ..seriously though?
Maximum Carnage (gets repetitive since you'll be playing alone)
Cannon Fodder (you'll need a mouse if you want to beat it)
Syndicate (get mouse)
Exo-Squad
Skitchin'
Risk (a toned down Risk simulation, yay)

I'd say buy sonic 3 right after sonic and knuckles, since plugged together they turn into the biggest, and probably most enjoyable 2d sonic game you can get.
And here's a few more you should definitely have a look at:

Ecco the Dolphin 1-2
Quackshot starring Donald Duck
Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel
Legend of Toki – Going Ape Spit
Ranger X
Spider-man Vs. The Kingpin
Elemental Master
Comix Zone
Super Fantasy Zone
Wonder Boy in Monster World

Crack Down
Eternal Champions
Blades of Vengeance
Grand Slam Tennis
Bio-Hazard Battle
The Punisher
General Chaos
Gain Ground

Thank you. Excellent choices so far. Hopefully the courier delivering it is turning up tommorow. :)

And deliver he DID. :D It took a little while for him to turn but, but he arrived and sure enough, I have my Sega Megadrive now. It's all hooked up and it works just fine. :) Still waiting on Alien Storm, that was coming from another seller. Can't wait for that to turn up too. :)

Also went into town with the complilated lists you had made. Didn't find any of them, but I found a really good store that sells quite a few games I want.. including Thunder Force 3... That game is MINE next week, come hell or high water. :)

However, one of the stores... Urgh... They were trying to sell Phantasy Star II for £30! £30!! Do they think people were born yesterday and so could be forced into buying that as well as even worse things like... like Final Fantasy X-2!
