Who remembers playing this game back in the day on Genesis? Probably my favorite Genesis game. I don't think the review here gave it any justice whatsoever. Great sound, great graphics, great gameplay! And It's Michael Jackson!

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a341/LIUKANGFIGHTER/michaeljackson4.jpg

But anyway, has anyone noticed how the game has shot up in value recently? I just bought a copy on eBay with box and manual (now mind you this was a bidding war) for $27+$6 shipping from Canada, comes to $33. Has this game become rare or something, because I can't even find a copy online that's less than like $20.

There's a thread all about it somewhere but I'm too lazy to link it. Some people speculate that it's because the Angry Video Game Nerd reviewed it and that drove up the price. Either way I had a lot of fun playing this game when I was little, but I still have yet to beat it.

Pun intended.

Heh, yeah. The Angry Video Game Nerd is actually where I found out about the game, and I really do like it a lot. It seems that it's one of those games that everyone loves but the big critics, who tend to put it off as a mediocre to crappy game.

Yeah. I haven't played it in years...I keep planning to play it again one of these days but I found my SMS games yesterday and have been consumed by those. CHOOOOOOOOOOOOOPLIFTERRR

Are there any good games on SMS? I hear most of them are really crappy watered-down versions of Genesis games, and the rest aren't worth playing all that much.

Definitely. SMS was before Genesis so they were pre-cursors to that gloreh. Not at mah place right now so I couldn't tell you my games.

When I was a kid this was one of the few games I had. I always liked it and still play it now it and then. It's not one of the best Genesis titles, but is still very enjoyable. Michael!

It's kind of annoying that everyone is getting their video game education from the AVGN considering he is very new to vintage video gaming from a collector's standpoint and many of his "facts" are incorrect unless they are straight copy and paste from Wikipedia. I mean, I can't expect everyone to know everything about video games ever, but for some reason people seem to think he actually is a video game history guru and then spew his mistakes all over the internet as fact. Go read the comments on any 32X or Sega CD video, because the AVGN called them failures, now every dumbass has to. Before that video, most of the comments would've been like "oh man, 32X, I remember always wanting one of those!" or "I played a Sega CD at my friend's house once, it blew me away." Watch, I bet if he ever reviews the Neo Geo every Neo Geo video will be spammed with comments about the games being too expensive and not advanced enough for the time and that the SNES is better (because the AVGN is a ridiculously flagrant Nintendo fanboy). What is even more irratating is that every time he reviews a game/system/peripheral it skyrockets in price immediately, which is aggravating as shit for someone who knew about and wanted it BEFORE he made a video 10 minutes after reading the Wiki entry on it.

I don't think I've ever even seen this guy before. Don't know why anyone would listen to some guy on the internet and buy whatever he talks about. I just get what looks fun to me.

Its not that they're getting it BECAUSE he talks about it, they're getting it because they didn't know about it BEFORE he talked about. Most people have such a narrow experience with older systems that they only know what they or their friends/relatives had. In spite of there being over 700 licensed NES games, most people (non-collectors) couldn't name off more than 10 or 20 or so.

I agree. When I was watching some of his videos, I noticed a lot of flaws in some of them, and he does tend to quote wikipedia a lot. I even noticed when he did Moonwalker, after I played it, he says that the shooting star comes around rarely. He was very mistaken about that. Same with Top Gun, he claims the numbers on the side do nothing. And the claims that Sega-CD was a failure is dumb. That was a very popular system, if you just look at sales alone. It sold about 6 Million Units. He didn't even bother to review any game in that review that wasn't a FMV game. I usually just watch his reviews to get a good laugh, but some of them are extremely horrible in terms of the game itself. Some of them are spot on, like the Power Glove, but others are suckish, like Sega-CD, 32x, and some games like Moonwalker, Simon's Quest, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and TMNT. Even Top Gun isn't as bad as he says it is.

And as for the education thing, I had heard of Moonwalker before, but I hadn't seen or bothered to watch any footage of the game itself. He really nitpicked at that game as well, which was kind of lame. Like, if he does a review of a game or peripheral and then I try it out (if I don't have it at least) he ends up being wrong on a lot of levels. Like Top Gun. Sure it's near impossible to land the plane, but it's not as hard to fuel the fighter. And the bars on the right actually do mean something when landing I found out.

Is there even a PAL-version of this game with Thriller? I have two copies of this game, but none of them has Thriller. I can't see any diffrence between this game on normal and hard, am I the only one to do that?

Moonwalker is one of my favourite Genesis-games by the way, I have no idea why, but I think that it's the best Genesis-game ever.

I honestly can't see where this is that great of a game, the gameplay is pretty average.

The tunes were good, but this game pales compared to the arcade game.

Not sure if there's a PAL version with Thriller. There is a US version with Thriller (Revision 00) and all Japanese versions I think have Thriller if I'm not mistaken.

There is a difference between Normal and Hard, but not much. Enemies are tougher to take out (more hits to beat) but other than that, not much difference.

I actually landed the plane like first or second try right after watching that video. The trick is that you have to "feel it out" because sometimes the indicators will be incorrect i.e. it tells you to slow down but then tells you to pull up, but you are too slow to do so, so you have to know to speed up a little. I have successfully landed and refueled no problem. I don't mind that he complains about games as thats the parts I really enjoy because I can identify with many of them (the impossible jumps in TMNT, for example), but many of the games and systems, like the Sega CD, he just has too shallow of an experience to really make a sound judgement call. I mean, at the end of the Sega CD video, he says "and none of my friends ever had a Sega CD, you know why? BECAUSE IT FUCKING SUCKS *repeat* *repeat*" That's retarded, that's like saying your friends never had a Ferrari because it sucks. Its not because it sucks, its because they couldn't afford it, that's the reason none of MY friends ever had one, and probably the reason none of his did. All of the people I knew that played video games would've given a left nut for a Sega CD back in the day, that's probably why I like mine so much now, it really was a premium 2D 16-bit system with some really nice games once you get past the interactive movie games (which were really the fault of the popularity of Laserdisc arcade games, not Sega being brain dead like every says nowadays).

Moonwalker is awesome because of the sheer fact that it exists. I mean, come on, you are Michael Jackson, you shoot sparkles out of your hands and feet, you GRAB CHILDREN, you can moonwalk and crotch grab at will, a monkey guides you to the final battle, and you can beat the final battle by doing a dance routine. Its awesome the same way Saved by the Bell is awesome.

I agree that it's stupid where he says none of his friends had it because it sucked. There's probably a 99 Percent chance that isn't true, for 2 reasons. 1. Sega-CD actually doesn't suck, and 2. You needed to be Richie Rich or at least have a job to actually have a SEGA-CD. I mean come on, it was like $200 when it came out. I mean really, did you really expect everyone who had a Genesis to have one?

I completely agree with this. It's also very fun and it's got great graphics, controls, sound, music, etc. Very underrated and definitely my favorite game on the system.

AVGN even admitted that the game is kinda awesome in its own way. I think he just nitpicks on certain games because it wouldn't be funny if there wasn't anything bad to say about it.

The only enemie I remember that was tougher to take out was the guy in Club 30 who plays billiards. On normal, he takes 3 hits but on hard he takes 4 instead.

I think the Swat team guys take three in later levels. Maybe zombies are tougher as well.

It was actually $300 at launch, then I think by late 1994/early 1995 it went to down to $99, and by then if anything you wanted a 32X or were waiting for PSX or Saturn.

Well thats the whole premise, its not that he's just going "blah blah blah bad bad bad," he's taking games that could've or should've been good and pointing out what ruined them. I can think of more NES games than not that have ridiculous aspects to them that never should've made it into the final game, usually confusing controls or unfair requirements (the kneeling and waiting for the tornado in Castlevania II is f'n ridiculous, as are the jumps in Ninja Turtles or the tacked on religious nature of the Wisdom Tree games). If you listen to his reviews, there is usually alot of remarks that are more positive and sometimes even genuinely reverent about the games. I like him as long as he's not doing his "diarrhea dump" poop joke stints, which I always skip past. More than anything he just needs to lose the Nintendo fanboy bias, at least he gave Virtual Boy the bitch slap it deserved.

He'll never lose the Nintendo Fanboy base as long as he keeps doing NES games. Did you see how many that guy has on his site? He's gotta have like at least 75 percent of the entire NES library.

SMB3 is awesome, and Smash Bros. isn't.

That was pretty easy.

Perhaps it would be best to say "Which game is better: Genesis Aladdin or Moonwalker?"

And my answer will be "Aladdin" because it has better gameplay.

still not a good comparison, what if I don't like Disney or Arabian themes? What if PREFER sparkles to swords? I think the Aladdin on SNES vs. Aladdin on Genesis is a better comparison, but still a bit off because Moonwalker in the arcade is an isometric beat em up and Moonwalker on the Genesis is a platforming beat em up.
